CHAPTER 2
Night was falling and I had just finished setting my room (sort of). There were still a lot of boxes to unpack but, I was dead tired. I was so engrossed in setting my room and making it look perfect, I didn't even bother checking the time.
I could hear children screaming and laughing while they were playing on the streets. I walked out, into my balcony and saw the street towards my left. My balcony was facing another house which, I was guessing, was occupied by another family.
Maybe one of those families, who were watching their children play, owned the house. There were a lot of tiny children running around, and their mothers shouting at them to be careful.
If mom were here, would she tell me to be careful, and worry if I was out? I sighed at that thought. I never got to see my mother. I didn't even know what her name was, or what she looked. I'm guessing she looks like me. No, wait, I look like her. I'm guessing that I looked like her.
Picturing my mother should have been easy but, it wasn't. It kind of hurt when I thought about my mother. Did she leave me because she didn't want me? Did she leave me because she couldn't take care of me? Did she lose me? Is she searching for me right now? Is she dead?
I shuddered at that thought. What the hell is wrong with me?
She is probably on her way to meet me right now, or she might be searching for me, wondering why she gave me away and how it was the worst mistake of her life. Yeah, she is alive and kicking.
I shook all those thoughts out of my head and walked into my room, closing the balcony door behind me. Since my balcony doors were see through, I decided to set up my curtains before I headed down to see how my father and sis were doing.
After I was done with the curtains, I made my way downstairs. There were hardly any boxes left to unpack. The television and gaming consoles were missing and also some other small things like a vase, books on the shelf and all those other things that made the house actually look like a home.
Dad was sitting on the bar chair, sipping occasionally from his can of beer while flipping through the pages of a book. The book looked super old. Some of the pages were torn and crumpled like they had just walked out of a tornado. But unfortunately, I couldn't see the inscriptions or writings in the book.
"Hey" I said, walking over towards the fridge. My dad looked a bit startled at my sudden appearance. He stammered a little, "H-Hey"
He slowly put the book into a suitcase and locked it up. I ignored the fact that my dad was hiding that mysterious book from me, and slowly took a sip of my fruit juice. I had always been curious about that old book. He always had it with him. When I had asked him about the book a few years ago, he said that he himself didn't know what was in the book. Which is kind of weird since I see him reading it (or, "trying to read it" in his defense) almost every day.
"So..."
"So?"
"So I guess you're almost done?" I said, looking around.
"Yes, I'll finish by tomorrow." He said, finishing his beer. He took his suitcase and slowly walked up the stairs.
"Izzy?"
"Yeah" I said, turning around.
"Sleep early. Tomorrow is your big day"
"Sheesh, Dad. You're saying it like I'm going for war or something"
"Well, the way you explain your school life, you are"

I could hear 'Sweet Escape' playing in the background, while my dad drove us to school.
"You know Dad; it's a little embarrassing that you have to drop us to school. What would people think?"
The whole time I was in the car, I had to listen to Iris and Dad arguing. Since it was our first day, my dad wanted to drop us. That was fine with me. Honestly saying, I didn't care. I had better things to worry about. Random teenagers teasing me about my dad was the least of my worries.
"I'm only dropping you all off today. Will you calm down?"
"One day is more than enough for gossip scavengers, Dad"
I just rolled my eyes. Every time I tried to stop them from arguing, I would end up arguing with both of them. Iris always had some kind of 'reputation' to hold on to. Apparently, that's how you survive in high school.
Eventually I got sick of listening to them and turned up the radio.
"We're here" Dad said, pulling up next to the school. I took a deep breath and got out of the car. Iris was eager to just get it over with, and before dad could say anything, Iris said she'd be safe and walked into school.
"Be safe and call me if you need anything." With that, my father drove away, leaving me alone, in a parking lot filled with cars, and people.
Lots of people.
I'm guessing school hadn't started yet, so everyone hung out in the parking lot.
Hanging out in Parking lots = Fun (apparently)
Or maybe it was just a 'first day' thing.
Iris was nowhere to be seen, so I made my way into school. There were more people in the corridor. Maybe the parking lot was for the cool jocks and druggies.
'Sheesh! You're thinking too much!' I whispered to myself, as I walked over to the reception area.
The receptionist smiled at me as I entered the room.
"Hello there! How may I help you?"
"I'm new here," I said, smiling back.
"Well, give me a name"
After she was done searching for my file on the computer, she printed out my class and locker details and handed me my school schedule. I thanked the receptionist and walked out of the room.
'Just go find your class and sit in the back. Do not attract any kind attention.' I chanted in my head as I made my way towards my first class.
It was rather difficult finding my class, but I wasn't too keen on asking someone the direction. I sat on the second last seat and took out my phone so I could act busy. Just when I was about to get a high score, I got a message from an unknown number.
* Unknown Number: Don't get too comfortable Isabel
