CHAPTER 1
High School! It sucks... New teachers, new friends and ageing (joke). By ageing, I mean, we all growing up and becoming a little more responsible (joke again?). When you're a normal human being life is easier and making decisions, is like breathing. But when you're a "spell breaker" it's like a grenade is stuck on your hand and you either have to cut off your hand or wait for the grenade to explode. Basically, my life isn't that great compared to normal people who don't have to worry about immortal creatures and magic. They use pepper spray, on humans. But what we spell breakers have to defend ourselves from, are blood thirsty Zigerras.
And why must they be after the Spell Breakers, you ask?
It all goes back to the curse our ancestors put on the Zigerras; which once was a rebellious tribe of spell breakers, banished from their lands because of unnatural practices and mutiny. But, I never understood why our ancestors didn't realise how bad it could be for our people, as the zigerras manipulated the curse and made something a lot more dangerous. My father tried to explain that my ancestors were too peaceful to commit genocide. But, this lead them to their own deaths.
Well, for me it doesn't make any sense as to why they did that. I'm sure there might have been some miscalculations. They wanted to turn them into bunnies but, accidently turned them into ferocious supernatural beasts. But, now this "accident" is going to cause a lot of problems for all the spell breakers in the world. They should have just finished them but, of course not. They just want us to fight them for the rest of our lives. Thinking about all this just gave me a headache. Oh god, I hated those things!
I shifted in my seat and closed my eyes, rubbing my temples. I heard my dad say, "Ten more minutes and we will be reaching. Don't even think about sleeping now."
"Great" I said to myself and looked out of the window. Huge oak trees surrounded the place. Further up the road I could see buildings. They weren't like the dirty looking buildings. Even though they were old, they looked beautiful.
"Are we going to stay in buildings this old? What if there's an earthquake?" I asked my dad.
"Dramatic much?" I heard my sister saying under her breath.
"I heard you Iris! And I'm stating general facts" I protested.
"Don't worry, Izzy. Earth quakes don't occur in this town. I'm sure you guys are going to love it here. One of the best schools is situated in this town" my dad explained, as he drove towards the houses.
"Oh goody. I love school! Especially when I have to change it every year"
"Remember that one time when you weren't sarcastic and you were actually serious?" I said, in fake wonder.
"I told you guys that changing towns or cities, will not keep us safe from those things!" she yelled.
"Well, guess what! Changing towns kept us alive till now! And –"
Before I could say anything my dad cut me off.
"Just find the house yourselves because, if I hear any one of you guys talk another word, you will be thrown out"
"Whatever" I grumbled. The rest of the journey was travelled in silence. It felt like hours passed when, I finally spoke up.
"Dad, I think ten minutes has gone and an hour has passed by. Where is this house?"
"I don't know. They told me it was a white house with a black roof." He replied, slowly driving as he looked around for the house. I looked out of the window and almost every house looked the same.
"Spoiler alert. Every house looks the same. It will take forever to find it"
"Found it." Iris simply said looking over to the right. My dad slowed down the car and halted in front of a white house with a black roof.
"Awesome" I said sarcastically as I got out of the car. I stretched my body and yawned. Sitting in a car for eight hours straight was no joke.
"Learn your manners, Isabel Alexander. Haven't your parents taught you any?" Iris teased as she got out of the car.
"And haven't your parents taught you how to urinate in a bathroom?" I asked her, looking down at her shorts.
"That stupid bottle" she grumbled, dragging her bags towards the main door.
It was grand on the outside, and the inside of the house looked very modern for an old looking house. The walls were painted white but the kitchen shouted ultra-modern. For a house that is supposed to look like it's going to fall if the wind blows over it, it's not that bad on the inside.
"I pick my room first this time!" I shouted, pushing Iris away from the stairs, rushing up.
"HEY!" she shouted, trying to keep up.
I heard her running up the stairs but, it was too late. I already reached the door situated at the end of the corridor. I quickly stood in front of the door, blocking the entrance to the room.
"MUAH HA HA HA HA HA!!!" I shouted trying to fake laugh an evil laugh, failing miserably.
Iris just glared at me.
"Awwww is someone out of breath?"
"Funny," she said, in an uninterested tone.
"You get the one right next to the stairs. You're welcome." I said grinning and, quickly getting into my "new" room before she could plummet me to death.
I looked around the empty room. It didn't look as bad as I thought it would look. The room was painted white, with fancy wooden flooring (dark brown). There was a reasonably big balcony with glass doors and there were two other doors which, I'm guessing, is the bathroom and the closet. I opened the one adjacent to the balcony doors and slowly peeked in. There was a big bathtub (it could easily fit two people in it) I couldn't handle my excitement and started doing the victory dance. Just then I heard my dad call my name. He was standing right behind me with an amused look.
"Never knew my kids were this weird. I just saw Iris jumping around the room excited about something."
I gave him a huge grin and closed the bathroom door behind me.
"I'll go get my stuff," I said over my shoulder as I jogged down the stairs.
Iris was carrying her stuff up the stairs when, I stopped her in her tracks.
"Dad told me you were excited. So, what was it that you were so excited about?" I asked her.
"Walk in closet," she simply said pushing me aside and walking up the stairs.
"To keep three of your outfits?" I asked, as she flipped me off and disappeared into her room. I just rolled my eyes, picked up my stuff and headed towards my room.
I shut my door and crashed on the bed for some shut eye.
"I can do this later" I muttered to myself, looking at the boxes and bags I had to unpack, and slowly fell asleep.
