Kati's POV

Landon drives to the outskirts of Nashville. I sit in the passengers seat wondering where he's going. "Uh, Landon, where are we going?" I ask, looking at him.

"It's a surprise." he said, smiling. We drove for about another half a hour until we stopped at a small coffee shop.

"It's so cute!" I said, smiling. I climb out of the car and meet Landon at the front of the car.

"Are you ready?" he asked, smiling.

"As ready as I'll ever be!" I said, smiling. Landon took my hand and lead the way into the coffee shop. We walked in and took a spot at an empty booth. We were quickly greeted by a familiar figure.

"Hi, my name is Christie and I'll be your server today. Can I start you off by getting a drink?" she asked, handing us menues. "Wait, Kati?!"

"Christie?!" I asked, surprised. "I haven't seen you since third grade!" I got up and gave her a quick hug.

"I know! I finally convinced my parents to move back to Nashville!" she said, smiling. "How come I haven't seen you at school?"

"I, uh, I'm homeschooled now." I said.

"Oh, well maybe I'll stop by later and we can catch up, ok?" she asked, smiling.

"Ok." I said, sitting back down.

"Ok, now what would you guys like to drink?" Christie asked, taking our order.

"Uh, I'll have a water." I said.

"I'll have a coke." Landon said, flashing a friendly smile.

"Ok, I'll be right out with your drinks." she said, walking back behind the counter.

"Ok, so how do you know eachother?" Landon asked, looking at me.

"We went to elemantry school together. She was my best friend." I explained.

"Oh, I see. Where did you go to school?" he asked, resting his elbows on the table.

"Jefferson." I said, playing with my hair.

"Oh, I see. I didn't grow up here. I, uh, actually grew up in Grand Junction,"

"Colorado." I said, finishing the sentence for him. "That place is beautiful."

"My mom worked at the university there and my sister went to school there." Landon said, smiling.

"Why didn't your family move to Nashville with you?" I asked before he could continue.

He held his hand, waiting for Christie to place our drinks on the table. "Are you two ready to order?" she asked.

"Uh, I'll have the grilled chicken sandwich." I said, handing her the menu.

"I'll have the chicken and shrimp fajitas." Landon ordered. Christie wrote our orders down and put our order in. Landon continued on telling me the story. "My sister, she went to the midnight screening of 'The Dark Knight Rises". There was a shooting in the movie theater that night."

"The Aurora movie theater shooting." I said, shocked.

"She went with her boyfriend. The shooter, he shot at anything and everything. My sister, she took a bullet for her boyfriend. It went right through her heart. She died instantly. My family, they were devestated. I locked myself in my room for two weeks. The only time I came out in those two weeks was for her funeral. I couldn't cry anymore let alone talk to anyone." he said, his eyes glossed over in memories. "My own mother shut me out. My dad moved to Brazil to pursue his dream job and I haven't heard from him since. I moved here to get away from all the pain that that town caused in my childhood."
