July 11 1846
Our guide said we are 3 days out from fort Bridger. He also said that we are making good time. So far we have passed Courthouse Rock, Chimney Rock, and Independence Rock. Since people have been dumping thing off their wagons we have been collecting them. One man's trash is another man's treasure I guess. This morning David took me, before sunrise, to go hunting with him. We took,our guns and went off. I shot only one prairie dog. David shot two birds and one prairie dog. It is difficult for me to shoot a bird. Later once we were finished we stopped about a half mile from camp and had breakfast. David cooked up one of his birds for me. I told him that he didn't have to do that, but he wanted to. After breakfast we headed back to our camp. I woke up mother and Jude to make breakfast for the rest of us. Then we got back on the trail.
