This morning my mother woke me up an hour before sunrise. Let me tell you I am more of night owl than a early bird. I do not enjoy getting up early. Anyway I helped mother cook the game father shot last night, squirrel and buffalo. The mountain man said we can only shoot one at a time to prevent them from dying off. It's a good thing we like squirrel. After we cook breakfast we woke up Judy and father. The mountain man, our guide, went hunting for some food to eat along the trail.
It finally stopped raining last night. We were all so happy! After we finished breakfast and the mountain man came back we got back on the trail. The mountain man said we have five more days until we reach Fort Kearney. I was exited when I found out. About 12 o'clock we stopped for lunch. We had bacon, and left over hard tack from last night. I wonder If Jude made any more hard tack this morning. I can never make it right. My hard tack is either over cooked or too under cooked. Oh joy Jude did make more hard tack. At 6 o'clock we had dinner. We ate some buffalo and bacon. We have plenty of water from the rain we just had. After dinner we set off again until 9 o'clock to have dinner.
