Harte and Soul

Chapter 5

The train ride with Adam was good, but with every passing second my anxiety increased. I just knew Lena was going to say something to embarrass me, or Elise would show him my school pictures.

    "You okay?" he raises his eyebrow at me and grabs onto my hand.

    "Yeah I'm fine, I'm just worried that my family is going to say something stupid." Adam laughs and pulls me close to him. I rest my head on his shoulder.

    We approach my front door and before I can even reach for the doorknob Elise opens the door.

    "Hey you're not the delivery guy" She tries to play it as if she didn't know it was us, but she's not doing a very good job. I put my hands to my face. "You like pizza, sushi, and Harry Potter?" She asks Adam while giving him a make it or break it look.

    "Is there anybody who doesn't?" Good answer.

    "Welcome to the family umm..."

    "Adam Soul, I go by Adam" Okay, so the first 5 seconds we're okay. That's a good sign I think. Wait no, I was wrong because all of a sudden, here comes Lena.

    "Wow Alli, you actually have a boyfriend? I guess I owe Elise and Gene $20" Thanks Lena.

    "Lena, I literally haven't even gotten to close the door yet and you're already a brat."I roll my eyes at her. She sticks out her tongue and starts blowing a raspberry at me. Sometimes I forget she's only 6 years old. "Look, if you pinky swear not to be rude in my general direction tonight, I'll give not 1, not 2, but 3 pieces of my pizza." She sticks out her pinky without looking at me. Ha. gotcha. We finally get settled in. Adam and I take the love seat, Lena takes the 'lovesac', which is really just a giant bean bag, and Gene and Elise take the big couch as we put the first movie in the dvd player.

    "Elise, how long ago did you call?" I ask in regards to the delivery man.

    "Lets just say, 10 more minutes until I demand my food be free" That's reasonable. She literally started a timer for 10 minutes. Unfortunately, the delivery man got here with 2 minutes and 27 seconds left to spare. Lucas eyes my XL pizza.

    "Hawaiian. Wow, I sure can pick em can't I?" He winks at me while Elise raises her eyebrows up and down suggestively. Lena and I are the only ones who actually like hawaiian. And now apparently Adam.

    We end up getting to Goblet Of Fire before Lena passes out. After putting her to bed Elise calls to Adam.

    "Adam, would you like to spend the night? It's already 2 in the morning" Adam looks over to me suggesting whether or not it's alright with me. I shrug. It's his decision.

    "Sure" He says smiling at me.

    "Well, I'll go get the air mattress, no way am I letting you two sleep in Alli's room. You can sleep in the living room. Open door policy." I feel my cheeks gaining heat. Adam laughs.

    I go downstairs to help Elise grab the mattress and the pump.

    "I like him. He picked you so obviously he has good judgement." This is a good sign. As much as she seems very nice, she doesn't like very many people.

    "I like him too" I blush slightly.

    We get back upstairs, blow up the air mattress and grab several pillows and blankets from the closet and start loading up the mattress.

    "Okay, well I'm gonna go to bed. It was nice meeting you Adam" Elise and Adam smile at each other and then she heads upstairs. Adam and I decide to continue watching Harry Potter as we both insist we aren't tired. But I'm pretty sure I fell asleep as soon as the previews ended.
