I backed away from the door. Shit. Is he talking about me? I don't really know him that well. He could very well have another female in his life that turned 18 right? All I know, is that I have to put my reporting skills to the test and figure out what he's up to. After silently freaking out for about 5 minutes, I hear the water shut off and realize I'm still right outside the bathroom door. I make my way to the couch and try to act nonchalant as I check my phone.  I stay quiet as he finishes getting ready.

"Hey, are you alright?" I was startled by his question.

"Yes I'm fine" I was definitely not fine.

"Because you haven't talked to me since we-" I cut him off.

"It's not because of the kiss. It's nothing, don't worry about it" I can tell that he's still worried, but he lets it go for now.

"How about we stop at the cafe and get a cup to go? I'll buy" He winks. Shit. He knows the way to my heart.

We get to the cafe and I notice that James surprisingly isn't there. A barista named Oliver takes our order. James introduced us a few times, so we've become friends

"Where's James today?" I ask.

"He actually quit, believe it or not" I'm shocked. James has always loved it here. I can't help but wonder if he quit because of Adam.

We're finally in the elevator going up to my new apartment when I finally speak.

"Okay, so compared to your apartment this is a cardboard box... so don't laugh." He chuckles slightly and grabs my hand. I want to let go, but I can't bring myself to. We get to the apartment to see Judy ( the real estate agent ) with all of the papers on my new cupboards.

"Hi Judy, nice seeing you again." I smile and wave with my free hand. She looks down at my other hand, and then to the person it's connected to. She gives me a puzzled look. "This is Adam." I smile at him. As much as I don't trust him right now, I can't help myself.    After I quickly sign all the papers she leaves us to the apartment so I can show Adam and start moving things in asap.

"So? Do you like it?" I ask him anxiously.

"I do, I can see myself spending quite a bit of time here" He winks and kisses the top of my head.

We make yet again, another stop at the cafe on the way back home. Which I guess isn't home anymore. It's Elise's home. Not mine. Not anymore.

"So can I convince you to get french toast this time?" I wiggle my eyebrows at him.

"You know what? I will. Even though it is like dinner time" He laughs. Oliver brings us our french toast and coffees within the next ten minutes and I stare at Adam waiting for him to try the deliciousness that is french toast.

"If you don't like it, I'm afraid this relationship can progress no farther" I say in an older british accent.

"Well good for me then, because it is probably one of the greatest things I've ever eaten." He declares proudly.

"No shit, it's amazing" I laugh.

"I will be back momentarily m'lady" He states trying to mimic my fake accent, and leaves to the restroom. I figure that if I wanna see who was on the phone with him earlier that this is my only opportunity. I grab the phone from the other side of our table. I swipe, shit, passcode. I guess he's not as smart as I thought. It was 1 2 3 4. I click on the little phone icon and prepare to write down the most recent number. Empty. No recent calls. There are some from a few weeks ago but nothing recent.

"What are you doing with my phone?" He isn't rude, only shocked and confused. I can't believe I just looked through someone's personal things.

"Oh, my phone is dead, and I wanted to check the time" Over the years, I got pretty good at lying. The rest of our dining experience was pretty quiet. It got me thinking though. It was a bathroom with the shower running. So maybe I didn't hear correctly, maybe he wasn't on the phone at all. My paranoia makes me think that even silence are words sometimes. So maybe that's it. He didn't do anything. As soon as I get home, I start packing.
