Harte and Soul

Chapter 6

I'm running in the woods. Running away from something, but I'm not quite sure what. I just keep ducking behind trees while trying to hide. I see rocks and sticks flying at me from all around. I hear screams. So many screams. Painful screams. I feel them in my head. I feel as though they're slowly killing me but I can't stop running.  All of a sudden, a black figure- no, a shadow stops me in my tracks. Not just 1. Several black shadows surround me and keep creeping closer and I legitimately feel as though I'm about to die. Instead, I wake up. Screaming. Again.

"Alli! Alli! Hey, it's me, It's me, shh" I look up at Adam's dark brown eyes that are filled with concern. He pulls me into him. "Alli, it's okay. You're alright." He gets up and after fumbling with all the cupboards in the kitchen he manages to find a cup and fills it with water for me. "Here, drink up."

"Where is everyone?" I ask with tears still in my eyes.

"Elise said that they were all going to do some groceries, so at the moment, it's just you and me" At that moment I hear my cell phone ring. I wipe my eyes, take a deep breath and then answer.

"Are you serious?" I yell into the phone beaming. "Thank you, I'll come sign for everything right away." I press the end button and start screaming with joy. Adam looks at me with a confused smile.

"What was that all about?"

"Okay, so you know how I told you I was looking at apartments the other day?" I can't hide my excitement. Adam nods. "Well, now I, Alli Jeanne Marie Harte, own my very own apartment! Once I get everything signed she said I can move in whenever."

"Oh Alli, that's amazing." He pulls me in for a hug. And then his earlier frown begins to resurface. "Are you alright? What did you dream about?" He asks. I have to think for quite some time in an attempt to remember.

    "Honestly, I don't really remember. All I can actually recall is a tree..." I put my face in my hands "I am so sorry you saw that. Ever since last night I've been waking up screaming." He grabs my hand.

    'Don't ever apologize to me. Okay?" I nod in agreement. After sitting with Adam for another 10 minutes I decide I should probably take a shower and get dressed before I go sign papers so I leave Adam to himself for a bit.

    Once I finish getting dressed I tell Adam that he can come in while I do my hair and makeup. When he comes in, he looks at the current mess I am and looks me up and down.

    "You look beautiful" he whispers in my ear as he plants a kiss on my cheek. I can tell that he notices me blush when he chuckles. We decided that we would stop at his place so he could get ready and then he'd come with me to the apartment so he could see it. Before we leave we make sure to put away the mattress and throw the blankets in the wash. The train ride was usual, the usual smell of weed fills the air making it pretty difficult to breathe. You know, the usual.

    When we finally get to Adam's apartment- no it can't even be classified as an apartment. It is a condo. In a very expensive building. We walk into the lobby and the door man walks up to Adam. They give each other a fist bump and Adam introduces me.

    "Levert, this is Alli." I hesitantly shake Levert's hand.

    "Girlfriend?" Levert asks wiggling his eyebrows suggestively.

    "We haven't talked about it actually" I can see his face starting to change from its usual pale to a rosy colour and I don't doubt that mine is doing the exact same thing. Levert and Adam make a little bit more small talk as Adam intertwines his arm with mine. After they finish up Adam leads me up to the elevator that leads straight into his penthouse apartment. I walk in and I can't help but to let my mouth open in awe.

    "Are you sure you still want to see my apartment? Because it pales in comparison. By like, a lot." I ask him suddenly feeling kind of embarrassed. He gives me a reassuring kiss on the forehead.

    "Yes, I'm sure. I really have this apartment because my father owns the complex. I really never wanted anything this big." I give him a little fake pout as in an 'aww poor muffin'. He rolls his eyes jokingly before his face becomes slightly more stern. "Okay, so, God this is awkward. So what Levert said downstairs. The whole if we're dating thing. Should we talk about that" His face turns bright red and I can tell he's very flustered.

    "Hmm, I don't know. I mean, I was kinda planning on growing old with, oh I don't know, 8 or 9 cats." I tease. "This would really screw my future plans." I shrug and a smile forms on my face. In the midst of me laughing, Adam catched me off guard with a kiss. Before I know it, I'm pinned up against the wall in full makeout zone. Before things get too heated he backs away with a massive smile on his face.

    "Go brush your teeth" I jokingly (but not really) tell him. Almost immediately after he enters his bathroom, I hear the shower go on. Then I heard his muffled voice. Concerned he was talking to himself, I tried to listen in through the bathroom door. I quickly realized he was on the phone.

    "Yes... the objective has been found" "She mentioned that there had been 2 episodes" "Yes sir" "She's not ready. She just turned 18 sir" "Yes sir."
