Ash pov
Ash was surrounded by all the boys and some of the guests. Everyone congratulating him on his win. He knew that they would have an audience but he didn't think everyone would have showed up to watch the race. The boys had grown a bit weary and nervous at first but with a little bit of encouragement they had overcome it. They had performed better then he had expected and proven to the rest that they were old enough to do anything. With only two days of training they had learned fast and won their first competition as a team.
Then when his turn came around to race against Axel he had won the race easily. It wasn't much of a challenge and he had held back, so he would not leave him so far behind. Not that he wouldn't have minded since Axel had been waiting for an opportunity to race against him. Then Jason had challenged him into a race and as much as he didn't want to, he couldn't refuse. Both men were very competitive and it would give the guests a chance to see a real horse race. He had seen both April and Kiera cheer for him against Axel but when he heard her cheering him against Jason it had helped him push his own limits to win. He didn't know what exactly made him want to win this race for her but whatever it was he liked the feeling.
Maybe it had to do with Rhonda never being as enthusiastic as Kiera when he raced, even before they got hitched. Having someone there to support his interests made his heart swell. Rhonda never went to see any of his races and never showed any interest in anything to do with ranching. Thinking back now he couldn't remember what he had seen in her since she had no interest in his lifestyle. She was a stunning woman and like any male, he fell for her beauty and never saw her for who she really was. Rhonda, on the other hand, saw a very successful businessman and took advantage of his interests in her. Now he knew better then to fall for a woman for their looks.
Kiera on the other hand didn't even know him and was cheering him on as if they were more than just acquaintances, even if they had just met each other. She was independent and smart, she had her own job and never seemed to flaunt herself to be noticed, like Rhonda and Kiera's sister. He had met Karla last night and even though she was as good looking woman, she reminded him too much of Rhonda in so many ways. Before the races started she and Axel, introduced as Alex, came to introduce themselves officially and even if others didn't noticed, she had slyly flirted with him and Jason. He had acted as if he had not noticed and reminded himself to heed April's warning about staying away from her.
As the crowd started to thin out a bit he saw April push her way through the crowd towards him, with Kiera in her wake.
"Congrats Ash, we knew you would win." April said excitedly.
"Hey, you could have cheered me on more." Michael said, feigning hurt, as he came to stand besides April and pulled her into his arms.
"I did cheer you on, but sorry baby you lost." She said, leaning up to kiss him.
"I told him from the beginning that I was going to smoke him in the race but he didn't believe me. Could have saved him all the shame of loosing to me." Chase stated, coming up from behind the couple.
"Well Kiera, aren't you going to congratulate your man on his win?" April asked, nudging her on the side.
Kiera turned and glared at her, before turning back with a very embarrassed look.
"There's no need to congratulate me sweety, a kiss will be enough." Chase said stepping up to her, grinning from ear to ear.
Michael, April, and Kiera all slapped him on the side of the head, causing Ash to smile and shake his head.
"Ow, that hurt. Fine then, she can congratulate Ash too, but I still want my victory kiss."
Kiera slapped him on the head again as Michael pulled him to the side by the scruff of his shirt. Everyone laughed it off as Chase walked away with one of the girls who was waiting on the side, but not before calling over his shoulder that he would wait for his kiss.
