My Story
Kara's POV
I woke up to the sound of 'Safe and Sound' by Capital Cities. Oh my. Did I actually fall asleep. I guess I was just really traumatized from all that happened tonight.
"Hey, you're awake. Nice hair," he said while smirking.
Oh god. I immediately flipped down the visor and opened up the mirror. My hair was a disaster.
"Uh, do you have a brush?" I asked embarrassed.
"Yeah, me, a 16 year old dude just carries a brush with him everywhere," he replied sarcastically.
"Well, you could have a comb or something!" I defended myself even though I probably sounded really stupid.
"Oh, well no," he replied.
I decided to brush through my hair with my fingers.
"So, what's your story?" Caleb asked.
"My... story?" I asked confused.
"Yeah, just tell me all about you," he demanded.
"Um okay, well I haven't had a good life I guess. When I was 7 I was in a hurricane. I was evacuated from my home town in Mississippi and never looked back. I woke up that morning, the morning of the hurricane, and turned on the news, well not me I guess, my parents did. The hurricane ended up being a category 5. The worst a hurricane could be. I grabbed one thing from my room, my cats and dogs, and I left with the clothes on my back." I said. I turned to Caleb and I saw he was listening intently.
"Continue," He urged.
"Okay, I went on a several hour car ride to Tennessee. I have family there. I um remember one night looking up at the stars with my uncle. There were fireflies. It was beautiful. He told me everything would be okay. And I beloved him. But reality hit me. We turned on the TV and on the news; there was a picture of my small little town. My school was gone, there was a boat in my yard, and the only thing left of my house was the tiles my great grandma had put in our kitchen. A day after my parents decided they wanted to go see our home, but I couldn't come. Neither could either of my brothers. Apparently it was too devastating for our kind eyes to see. But I never got closure. I never got to see the place. I never got to accept the fact that I would never return to my house. You know, my neighborhood was so safe. Everyday after school, I would run straight up to my neighbor and hug him. My best friend Brooke, we used to have so much fun. But i haven't seen Mr. Watson or Brooke in 8 years," I felt like I was rambling so I decided to stop.
"You can tell me everything, I am listening. Don't think I'm not," Caleb said to me.
"Well, it's just a really long story, you will probably get disinterested after a while," I said.
"Hey, c'mon, that's not true. Kara, you can trust me," He coped "Continue"
"Well my parents shipped my brothers and I off to California to live with my grandpa. Let's just say that was not a good situation to be in," I continued. I looked over to see if Caleb wanted to know more about that but he didn't push it so I kept going with the story. "I lived there for a year, my parents were trying to find us a place to live and finally they did. It sucked though because I had to leave all my friends once again. My parents found a place here, in a safe town. When we packed up our car to leave California, we went inside to say our goodbyes, and when we got back, the stuff in our car was gone. We had just gone through this whole hurricane, and the little things we had were gone. So we had to start over. You just can't do that you know? You don't know what people are going through. You can't just steal all their stuff," at this point I was crying. Caleb grabbed my hand and tried to comfort me. I haven't told anyone this, not even my best friends. I guess I just needed to vent to someone I knew would listen. "And obviously I don't have the best luck with guys. I've been cheated on, harassed, and left with a broken heart, I though this place would be a fresh start but it hasn't been any better and I have lived here for 8 years," I said through sniffles,
