"I've lived in New York my whole life." Xitlaly said, not looking away from the Chimera that the Ferox's were trying to take down. "And never. In my whole life. Have I ever seen anything like that."
Jaimie snorted. "You've clearly never been to Texas then."
Chimeras were ugly. Yeah, I've heard stories, and I've even seen Lya's orphanage photos—which weren't flattering—but this was on a whole other level.
I turned to look at the demigods—who really had just found out about an hour ago—and quickly moved them away from any harm. I looked back at my friends, watching Lorna expertly roll across the ground to avoid the flames the Chimera was spewing out, cutting the monster in the process, which only made it angry—Lyanna was exceptional at making people angry.
"Alright-" I started.
"You are not leaving us here." Thea interrupted. She pointed an accusing finger at me and repeated. "You. Are. Not. Leaving. Us"
"I'm not! I'll just be over there where my friends need help. Besides, camp is just a little far off that way, just across Half-Blood Hill. They'll see the Chimera and send people to take you guys all the way safely."
"Yeah, but that's if they see the China," Jaimie protested.
"Chimera." Thea corrected.
"Just stay low." I shouted at them, already halfway to the commotion.
"Glad you could finally join us." Ysa yelled, vines magicking themselves off his hand, trying to snap the Chimeras mouth shut to avoid 8262 degree burns.
I took out my spear and shrugged, "I had to stretch a little first."
Joining Lya and Chesa, I advanced with bent knees, my spear point a few inches from the monster, and the long hilt parallel to the ground, cornering it. As we advanced the Chimera backed; its side spilled out gold monster dust where Lyanna had cut it.
As quick as I could, I threw a glance at the new recruits to make sure they were safe. Thankfully, all four of them were making their way to camp waving their arms and shouting for help.
I sighed in relief that they were safe and gathering some backup so we wouldn't die so close to the border. Unfortunately, I had spoken too soon. My heart stopped as I heard Chesa screech my name in terror.
