Tyler looked up, noticing how the day was halfway over. The sun hadn't set yet, but it was going to soon. It was noon, and he couldn't believe that he had been sitting here since morning. He remembered the day he and Jenna were sitting up in the tree pretty clearly. When he went to sleep that night, he couldn't stop thinking about her. This was usually normal for Tyler because he always thought about Jenna, but this night was different because a different question had crossed his mind.
What if she likes him back?
It was crazy, and he knew it. But he couldn't help but wonder. When they stared at each other for a few moments, he thought he saw something in her eyes. Something that told him that there was the possibility that she had feelings for him. But Tyler kept repeating to himself that it wasn't possible. She thought love was pointless, and that was it.
Looking back at it, Tyler realized how stupid he had actually been to have had that thought cross his mind at all.
He picked up his pen, writing again.
And that was another mistake. Even having the thought that she could like you back. You were stupid. You should have left it alone. But with the lingering question that she may like you back, you tried to hint it to her. You couldn't hide your feelings for her, so you had to find a way to subtly let her know. You knew it wouldn't work though. You knew that there was no possibility of her falling for you, so why did you even try?
•••••
Jenna was with Tyler at his apartment today. A few days ago, when they were talking in the tree together, Jenna's sister had gotten angry with her again. She said that Jenna should have been studying for school instead of hanging out with her friend all day. Her sister tried to have her stay home again today, but she wouldn't listen. She hadn't seen Tyler in 2 whole days, so they had to see each other again.
Tyler was helping her study though. He read through all her notes and flash cards, making sure that Jenna knew everything she needed to for her test.
And throughout the entire time, the same thought continuously popped into Tyler's mind.
What if she likes him back?
Even though he kept telling himself it was impossible, he had to know for sure. The same thought kept pounding in his brain, so he was desperate to know.
As he was reading through her notes, he began scooting a little closer to her on the couch. Not too close to the point where it would be uncomfortable, but slowly, so it wouldn't be too obvious. He wasn't too far from her to begin with, so it wasn't that difficult.
He stopped once his shoulders were touching hers, and he stopped reading the notes for a second so he could look up towards Jenna. The pink haired girl turned towards him, her blue eyes immediately meeting his. And there Tyler was again, stuck inside of her captivating eyes to the point where he couldn't move. He felt frozen under her watch, and any small movement made could ruin the moment.
Her face leaned closer to his, and he felt his heart beating out of his chest. He didn't know what to expect.
Not even a second later, her lips were against his cheek, causing butterflies to fly throughout Tyler's stomach. His cheeks were bright pink, and Jenna seemed to notice as she pulled back, giving Tyler a small giggle. He was on fire.
It was all he ever dreamed of, even though it was just a small kiss on the cheek. It was all he wanted. She was all he wanted.
Tyler thought she had to know for sure now. She had to know that Tyler had feelings for her, it was only the most obvious thing ever. His cheeks were bright pink, and he wore the brightest smile on his face. Nobody else could make him feel like this.
Even when Jenna took the notebook from Tyler's hands, he was speechless. He couldn't talk, and he couldn't stop the stupid smile from forming on his face. He began to zone out, thinking about what just happened. He replayed it in his head over and over. He just couldn't get enough of it.
"Tyler?" Jenna called, waving her hands in front of Tyler's face. He blinked, snapping himself back into reality.
"Huh?" Tyler asked.
"I asked if you wanted to go eat somewhere. I'm hungry," Jenna told him.
"Oh, yeah sure. Let's go," Tyler stated, standing up from the couch. Jenna stayed seated on the couch, holding her hand out, asking Tyler to help her up. He grabbed her hand, pulling her off the couch. She stumbled into Tyler's arms, but Tyler held her, making sure she stayed upright. He then took her hand and began walking to the door.
"Don't be so clumsy," he laughed, opening the door for the girl beside him.
And now, Tyler thought his question was halfway answered.
Maybe she does have feelings for him. But maybe she doesn't.
Either way, Tyler was halfway happy.
