"Are you sure you want to do this?"

"Yes, of course I'm sure. Do it now!" Ash snapped impatiently. "Now, remember who's in charge here. Act like that again and you'll be losing your job!"

The soldier scurried off.

"Men, make a circle around the house. She will NOT escape, you hear me?"

------

Stray grabbed Nikita's arm, practically dragging her through the house. Reaching the back door, she flung it open but shut it immediately.

"Nikita? We have a... problem..."

Nikita opened her mouth to answer, but then a light caught their attention. Peering through the window in the door, Stray gasped.

"They're burning the house! We have to get out, or we'll burn with it!"

She prepared to open the door and run, but hesitated. Her hand lingered on the door handle for a few seconds, then she let go. "Just one minute!" She yelled, sprinting into a room at the side. She emerged with her bow and quiver of arrows slung over her shoulder. Flinging open the door, the two girls ran outside. The flames surrounded them immediately. Nikita coughed from the choking smoke cloud and turned to Stray.

"I'm so, so sorry. This is all my fault! I shouldn't have involved you in this, all that ever comes to friends of mine is harm!" Nikita sobbed. Stray just smiled. "It's gonna be okay. We're going to make it out of the fire, and you will escape. You've got to be strong, alright?"

Nikita blinked away the tears as Stray continued.

"You have to use your powers. The only way out is for you to teleport."

Nikita nodded and squeezed her eyes shut trying to concentrate but she was shaking like a leaf. She put a hand on Stray's shoulder to teleport her too. The flames licked at her ankles, creating bright red burns on her dark skin.

------

"What's wrong? Can't you teleport? You useless wretch."

Nikita, five years old, stood in a pool wailing in agony. "I can't! I can't! Please, help me!" The water burned at her skin like acid.

The enderman standing at the pool's edge narrowed his eyes. "What use is a ender who can't even teleport properly?  Maybe I should just leave you in there."

"Father, please!" She fell backwards and screamed, the water covering her back. Realising her father wouldn't help her, she closed her eyes and gritted her teeth, concentrating through the pain. She felt the water disappear and opened her eyes to find herself on land.

-------

"Nikita, you did it! We're safe!"

She opened her eyes, the world blurring, before closing them again. "Nikita? Nikita don't pass out! We still need to run! Nikit-"

Nikita's world went black.
