The Mind Reader

O & T Story

"When I saw you, I thought you were a star, fallen from the sky. I told myself how can someone so beautiful be right here in front of me. And when you said hi, I almost said I love you."

O's

It's weird but it's true. Olivier could read mind. He didn't really know when, why or how―it just kinda happened. The very first time knowing the deepest thought of someone he barely knew was flustering to be frank, but then he got used to it real quick so by then everything almost felt like normal. Within a week, he could control whose mind he wanted to read and whose he would certainly block from his radar.

It's been almost a decade since his discovery and recently he felt like he's the master of mind-reading. Like, literally? People only knew he's great at giving bits of advice and counseling, encouraging them to do something they're afraid of or telling them what they needed to hear. In a good way of course. And at the moment, he's enjoying his warm latte in a deserted cafe, around five in the afternoon, and the light rain outside was making him smile because this precious-kinda-moment was so rare.

'I'm nervous, goodness. I'm so effing nervous.'

Olivier perked his ears. He had blocked everyone's thought from his mind, but apparently one managed to slip when he let his guard down. Or maybe he just didn't notice when they entered the cafe? And who the hell used word 'effing' nowadays?

'Ah, what should do? Ugh, this is harder than the last calculus quiz.'

Olivier blinked once, then twice. He looked around the cafe to see which lost soul was looking like a complete mess with such thought like that. Math was never really his thing, so it crept him.

'What if I die? Do I deserve to die?'

Dude, no. Olivier closed his eyes and sighed. Just now, was just too extreme. What was it really that's so nerve-wracking? He pinched the bridge of his nose, then looked up and surprised to see someone was coming to his table.

'Might as well just die. Goodbye to you too, T. Sorry your life gotta end this way.'

Whoa, a final thought? Olivier looked around once more but he's interrupted by someone in front of him.

"Hi."

'I like you too bloody much, goddamn.'

Olivier stared. That person was someone looking around his age, with soft blue silverish-dyed hair and bangs that covered half of his face. He's holding a cup of coffee with one hand and the top of his sling bag with the other hand.

What surprised him was the thought he heard earlier. They sounded alike. It's loud and clear. So it came from this guy?

"... me?" Olivier couldn't help but to point himself. That person liked him?

"Yeah. Do you mind if I sit here?" the latter darted his eyes on the table, lowering his head and his hair automatically fell down, looking so soft and Olie's fingers were suddenly itching to brush it back to where it belongs.

'Of course it is you, silly. Please don't reject me? Oh God I knew this is a mistake. Congrats Thierry for making a fool of yourself. Should I go? It'll be embarrassing if he says no. This is bad. What to do? Oh no, don't cry. Please don't cry. It hurts. What to'
