Chapter 24

RIVERS POV
harper was in tears by the time we sat her down in millies room. i knew josh was trouble and now he's upset harper. no one upsets my best friend.
"you did nothing wrong harp!" millie comforts her but im already dialling Finns number.
"yeah it's josh, he got mad at harper because she was talking to jack, can you come over? oh you've met up with jack?? even better. bye" i look at there astonished faces, "look at her mill, she didn't do anything and we can get jack to talk to him" i say sitting next to her.
"i know, look you grab some pyjamas from my wardrobe for her river and ill go an make us all a drink and get some cookies, okay? put on a movie, you choose harp" and then she runs off and I'm left alone with her.
"oh River! I don't know what to do" She cries and i hug her.
"He was the one who made a big deal over nothing. there is nothing wrong with sitting with jack. he so immature, sitting and having a drink with someone is not a date" i say, rolling my eyes and millie walks into the room balancing three cups and a plate full of chocolate chip cookies on a tray. i smile and help her whilst harper gets dressed in the bathroom.
"millie, do you think it was because he was jealous?" i ask her, chewing the corner of my nail
"absolutely" she replies so bluntly it makes me laugh slightly.

JACKS POV
i feel really bad for what happened to harper. it was entirely my fault, i shouldn't have brought her that drink because now josh is extremely mad at me and from what I've heard, Harper's crying.
i met up with finn and he got a phone call from river not long after. finn and i were originally going to hang after he'd been with river anyway.
"we're going to millies okay?" he tells me and i nod slowly.
"hey are you and river a thing?" i ask him, trying to keep my mind occupied.
"uh yeah but don't say anything jack please"
i motion zipping my mouth and he tells me about how his date went with her. it went terribly. i didn't think Caleb was like that. still i guess some people are different right? in fact, you never really know, do you? i always thought josh was different. finn and i walk to millies in silence, but i wish we had something to talk about.

we get to her house and millie answers the door. it looks like it's just her at home because she runs back upstairs and we follow.
i see harper sitting on the bed with her knees tucked up by her chest, she's been crying a lot, her pretty face slightly red and blotchy. she smiles slightly at me. i sit next to her on the bed and finn and millie share a glance.
"are you okay?" i ask her gently
"yeah, i just feel a little stupid" she says sadly.
"yeah but your not stupid" finn tells her, "but we did warn you about him harper. we all did" he says but Harper's tone changes quickly.
"yeah well you weren't even supposed to know. i already said i feel like and idiot so why don't you rub it in and say 'i told you so'" she says and then she burst into tears again. finn stands there looking guilty.
"look let's not fight" millie says quickly, she jumps on the end of the bed.
"im sorry finn" she says sadly.
"don't worry about it" he says softly to her, smiling at river.
she puts on a film and we all snuggle together, i put my arm secretly round Harper's shoulders, careful not to alert river, who was sitting right next to her. i smile in the dark. i did it in a friendly manner but my stupid feelings won't stop feeling. she's just a friend.
a little blonde girl comes bouncing in the room.
"millie? please i want to watch with you" she creeps in, and goes round to where millie was lying.
"okay, come here you cheesy toast lady" she pulls ava onto the bed and she giggles as if millie had said the funniest thing in the whole world.
"shhhh we're trying to watch" she puts her fingers to her lips and ava puts her hands over her mouth. we all chuckle at her and focus on the movie we were watching.

we end up having a harry potter marathon, quoting the spells and laughing loudly, using make up brushes for wands, rein-acting our favourite scenes and jumping off the bed and running around the room. very nearly breaking out into a food fight with the food Charlie brought us, but millie made sure that didn't happen because of her "beautiful white carpet" we all fell about laughing after that. it was one of the best nights I've had in a while. harper has cheered up, laughing and joking with everyone we completely loose track of time and suddenly i wake up on the floor with the girls fast asleep on the bed. i sit up and look across at finn whose lying on down on the blankets, holding his phone above his face.
