--- With Hanako and company---
"Hanako do you think the children are alright..." asked Kimiko nervously as they sat in the hut belonging to the priestess.
Hanako looked to her friend with hopeful eyes, "I can only think that they are and that they will be here soon. If I don't then I might go crazy," she stated as she looked away and out the window as the sun was rising. The sky was painted in hues of orange and red.
Later on that day Kimiko spotted something in the distance. As it drew closer she could make out the figures being Takashi and Kisa so she ran to them. When she came up to them her face paled.
"Takashi! Oh no," she started frantically while helping Kisa carry him to the hut, "where is Haruhi?" the two only looked at her with sad eyes. Kimiko's heart felt as if it fell to the pit of her stomach when she realized Haruhi was captured.
The priestess came to help bandage up Takashi's wounds as everyone stayed silent. Hanako held tightly to Kisa while tears began to form in the young girls eyes. Takashi was directed to stay still and rest while his injuries healed.
"This is madness," whispered Mamoko, "they are only children. Who would do such a thing..." Kimiko lay a hand on her friends trembling shoulder comfortingly.
"Haruhi is with Kyo most likely," began Kisa softly, "Kyo will keep her safe I just know it..."
"Aye child I believe so," began the priestess, "whatever evil is upon ye they need ye all alive and well. These injuries are only enough to harm, not kill," she explained as everyone looked to the older woman.
"Do you know why they want us?" asked Kisa curiously but was relieved hearing that her brother and friend would most likely be alive.
The priestess nodded her head slowly, "do ye remember what the monks had voiced to ye before leaving the temple?" she asked. Kisa nodded as she listened.
"Yes, they compared all 4 of us to the different elements," she answered, "Kyo wind, Takashi water, Haruhi earth and I fire."
"Ah yes, I see why. Ye have a passion that burns not only in ye soul, but shows through to the eyes child," she smiled softly at Kisa, "each one of ye is what is called an elemental."
"Elemetal?" Hanako repeated with a brow raised, her hand gripping Kisa's tighter.
"Yes, it was long ago a celestial maiden granted our world with jewels that held a power of each element," explained the priestess, " but many years ago those jewels were destroyed and their power lost forever. Though the celestial maiden came to proficize the power was not lost, but found in the souls deemed worthy."
"So, you mean to say that we are the jewels now?" asked Kisa. The priestess nodded as she stood urging them to follow.
"My dear ye hold the ability to control the fires of the earth, those natural and those ye creates," she held a small flame on a stick to Kisa, "hold it, do not fret it will not harm ye."
Kisa nodded and slowly cupped the flame in her hands as the priestess withdrew the stick. She felt a warm sensation, the feeling of safety blanketed her soul in a time were she felt the most vulnerable while she stared at the dancing flame. A smile formed on her delicate face as she looked to the priestess with her cobalt eyes, "it's so calming, nothing like the destruction I've seen fire do."
"Fire is not just death and destruction child," chuckled the priestess, "it is life and warmth for those who use it wisely." Soon they heard Takashi groan. They helped him sit up slowly as not to reopen his wounds. "Ye should heal within the next day or so young man."
Takashi slowly nodded his understanding, "Thank you," he said as he smiled at everyone.
"My Lady could you explain more about the elementals?" asked Hanako
"Elementals?" asked Takashi clearly confused.
"It's the reason we are being hunted," said Kisa, "I'll explain more later, for now listen."
"Yes, it was rumored that the jewel that held the greatest power was the wind, for it is all around us," explained the priestess, "it carries the clouds across the sky allowing for water to fall to the earth and vegetate the lands. It could create thunder and lightning and shoot them down causing needed fires to destroy forests so newer and stronger trees could grow in the place of what used to be. It is one of the most important out of all 4, it keeps them balanced," she finished while rebandaging Takashi's leg.
"I mean Kyo is basically our leader figure," Takashi began, "he keeps everyone together so him being the wind as the monks put it, makes the most sense."
"You're right," started Kimiko, "but that also means that whoever is hunting you all down has the more powerful element already..." she looked to the ground defeated.
"Yes but, Takashi and I were thinking," Kisa said nervously, "what if we get captured purposefully in order to help Kyo and Haruhi escape? We have greater strength in numbers." Their mothers looked to them and then each other nervously.
"But, what if you don't escape?" reasoned Mamoko, her eyes wide.
"I feel if you are going to go through with this plan then only one of you go and the other one stays behind and goes into hiding," started Hanako, "that way they won't have all the elements at least."
"Hanako you're not really suggesting we allow this?" exclaimed Kimiko shocked at her friends words.
"I am," he eyed her friends carefully, "they are right, they have a better chance if there are more of them. And one of them can take medical supplies to Kyo..."
They all looked at her for a moment, Kimiko sighed, "then maybe Takashi should go? And we can keep Kisa, she will be easier to hide since she is so small?" she reasoned.
"I don't mind being the one to go-"
"That would be smart since the element of water has healing abilities," stated the priestess, "water is clean and is an agent used commonly to heal wounds. If you can learn to control the ability you have been given then ye could help ye's friend greatly."
"Alright, do you know how I would be able to do so?" he asked hopeful that she could help.
"Alas I cannot, it is something you must learn on your own since these powers were held by jewels and not by souls in the past," she answered as a frown formed on Takashi's face.
"Well how did they use the jewel?" he asked, "do you know because maybe it would be similar."
"They say that to use the jewel of the water that the user had to wet their hands and hold the jewel over the would of the person they wished to heal," she explained while demonstrating with a small rock, "and the power would allow the water from the hands to enter and clean the wound, ultimately healing it completely.
"Then that settles it," Takashi stood up slowly, "we stay hidden till I learn to use some of my ability then we allow for myself to be captured." Mamoko looked to her son hesitantly till he cupped her face gently and smiled, "I will always come home to you, so don't be scared alright?" She nodded in defeat as she knew her sons mind won't change so she hugged him carefully as everyone sat around the cooking pot to eat for the evening.
