Brushing. Everybody knows what it is. For most of us, our mother taught us to brush our hair at a young age. Sounds simple enough, but it's actually more complex than you think. Brushing impacts your hair a TON since a lot of us do it on a daily basis. If your not doing it correctly or using the wrong type of brush for your hair, this can cause your hair lots of breakage which in turn results in stagnant, damaged hair.

How To Brush Your Hair The Right Way:
Start by sectioning off your hair and finger detangling. Make sure your nails are smooth, so no hair can get snagged on your nails or ripped out. They can be short or long, it doesn't matter. Make sure your also getting rid of the shed hair in your hand to avoid it tangling up with other pieces. Start with gently pulling tangled pieces apart. Once you have minimal to no tangles from finger detangling, you can go in with a brush. Grab a section by a few inches from the bottom. Gently brush out the hair below your hand like its worth a million bucks. Go slowly and if your brush is tugging on a hair, try detangling it gently with your fingers before going back to brushing. Make sure while doing this you are firmly (but not aggressively) grabbing the hair to prevent it pulling from the scalp. Once that part of your hair is fully detangled, move your hand up a few inches and continue the process. Once you get to the scalp, you can brush it as usual. Continue with the rest of your sections until your hair has been fully brushed and detangled.

How Often Should You Brush Your Hair?
No more than once a day, twice max. Some people only brush their hair on wash days and thats alright too, as long as your properly caring for your hair and keeping it mostly moisturized and tangle-free while you aren't brushing it. That goes for when you are leaving your hair in protective styles as well. Some people don't brush their hair at all, and thats perfectly okay. You dont have to brush your hair as long as it's tangle-free. Just use your fingers and be gentle.

*Remember that any kind of brushes/combs can cause breakage or damage to the hair, so try to do it as least often as possible.*
