What Is Hair Dusting?
Hair dusting is a trimming technique. Why Do People Get Their Hair Dusted?
Dusting is thought to trim off all your damaged hair without taking off any length. What Does The Dusting Technique Look Like?
This technique is done in small sections against the length of flat hair. Holding the scissors perpendicular to your strands, the hair that pops up is cut. (There will be video representation in the media box above for people that are more visual learners.)Why Don't I Agree With Hair Dusting?
With this technique, you are blindly cutting off all hair that pops up. People say that if they pop up it means that they are damaged or broken and to cut them off. But the issue with this is that you could be cutting off perfectly healthy hair. Just because it pops up, doesn't mean the hair is unhealthy. The hair could be shorter due to breakage or hair loss, so if you have new hair growth ur ganna cut it because your hair is popping up? The hair popping up could also be a result of frizz, which the problem can be solved with moisture. If you look up videos of dusting on youtube it kinda glorifies it and shows these girls with a finished, nice look, but after you wash your hair once, those pieces are ganna stick right back out so there'd be no point in cutting them. Even if the damaged hair was the only thing getting cut off, it's not that effective. There's still layers upon layers of hair thats not being touched by the scissors, only really the top layer. What Is A Trimming Technique That's Similar To Dusting, But More Effective?
This is referring to the 'search and destroy method'.How Does The 'Search And Destroy Method' Work?
The search and destroy method is done by going through tiny sections of hair and searching for individual split or white ends. You can do this in 3 ways. The first is by just eyeballing the section of hair. The second way is to weave the hair between your fingers to make the hair pop up and cutting off the individual damaged ends. The last way is by twisting your hair and trimming the damaged (split or white) ends.Do I (Lesley) Use The 'Search And Destroy Method'?
Yes, I find it to be super helpful for me. It helps to maintain healthy hair in between trims, but keep in mind that is not considered a full hair cut in any way. If you plan on using this technique, I'd suggest still getting your regular trims. How Often Can You Use The 'Search And Destroy Method'?
You can honestly use it as often as you want. Some people like to do this whenever their bored and have nothing to do. Others do it once a week or once every two weeks. Its up to you, but just remember it's not to be used as a replacement for hair cuts or trims.--------------------
