Growing up, I had everything I needed, plus more. I grew up in luxury. My parents (Pinihas and Saara) were wealthy. They had flats being rented, buses that transported people between Windhoek and the Northern towns and they even had cars for hire.
Sharon and I went to private schools. After we matriculated , I went to Havard university and she went to the the university of Namibia. She isn't as smart as I am. Me being the eldest, my parents made sure I studied really hard so that i would take over their businesses one day .
My parents loved money, no doubt. They would spend sleepless nights, running up and down to make sure their businesses are running smoothly. They were hardly home. Sometimes I would like to think They were selfish because they never travelled with us or be more present in our lives. We never spent christmas together as a family or any other holiday together. They had their heads wrapped up in their businesses and They wouldn't be there when we needed them the most.
They would tell us very little about our family.
Both My grandparents are dead. Sharon and I never met them. None of our parents said anything about them. Dad had 5 siblings; 3 brothers( Uncle Matias, Sheya & Wilbard) and 2 sisters (Aunt Foibe and aunt Liina). All of dad's siblings stay at Ongha at the north.Mom had only one sibling; Uncle Hendrick. Uncle Hendrick has been our favourite uncle. He is a lawyer and he has been spoiling us all our lives. He has twins; Hans and Frans who are Sharon's age. We would go to his house to spend the holidays.. They live at Swakopmund and There is so much to do in Swakopmund. Uncle Hendrick would take us to the lagoon, the aquarium and to the jetty as well. He would take us quad biking sometimes too.
My parents favoured me and they made it quite obvious. They bought me my first car when I was just 18. Sharon had to work to get a car. My parents were always disappointed at how poorly she performed in school. She wasn't really that bad, she could get straight As some times and they still wouldn't be happy. Now you can imagine how furious they were when she got 35 points in grade 12. Regardless of how they treated her, she loved them dearly.
Mom was diagnosed with cervical cancer and she became too weak. She would stay home more often and Sharon would never leave her side. My dad decided I join him and start running businesses with him. I declined at first but he kept persuading me. Later on I gave in and joined him.
A couple of months after I started working with dad, mom passed on. Then it was just dad, Sharon and I for some time. At 70 dad was getting old to run his businesses. He would summon me to do this and that. He grew weak and was always in and out of the hospital.
A couple of weeks before his sudden death, he called me in his office and told me everything that left me shattered and devasted. He told me about his deals and what he has gone through to be that successful. He made me promise to take care of his businesses because it costed him so much. He placed so much responsibility on me. He never told Sharon any of the stories he shared with me that day, And he made me swear to never tell anyone, not even Sharon.

"Your father played dangerous cards and he was involved in dangerous deals. But I'm sure you know that otherwise you wouldn't be running his businesses. We had a deal with him. He took away something I dearly loved and I asked him for something he dearly loved aswell; YOU. He did a great job hiding you, sending you out of the country so that I wouldn't find you. Ofcourse he said you went to study but dont we have good universities here? I never gave up looking for you, Although all I knew was your surname and nothing else. " Simata said to me.
"Dad loved his businesses more than anything. Why didn't he give you that instead ? " i asked.
"He wanted the Ishmael legacy to live on. He never wanted his businesses to die with him. I'm sure by now you know that Sharon was a total mistake one which affected your father badly. " Simata said.
At this moment, I'm totally shook. How does this guy know so much about my family? Why did dad trust this guy so much ?
"I know he wanted a son. And unfortunately the doctors failed him and Sharon happened. But that's besides the point. Why did he come to you to make a deal? And why would he choose me as an exchange?" I asked.
"Well you see your father loves you very much and saw himself in you. That is why he loved you dearly. So the deal was that I will have to marry you, against your own will because your father has decided your fate for you. "
Double shook. My dad is unbelievable! Yet he claimed to have loved me. If he did he would have given me the freedom to choose who I wanted to get married to. I unwillingly took his businesses now he wants to rob me of my personal life again?! Lord forbid.
"Why would he do that? What if I don't want to get married or what if I was a lesbian? Who does that in the 21st century? How does he make his deals and include me in his dirty deals? I can't accept it. Is this deal even legitimate and written somewhere ? " i said furiously.
"I have the documents right here signed by your father. Unfortunately for you, you were not 18 then so your mother signed on your behalf. " he said, giving me the documents
I scanned through it, looking at my parents signatures and frowned.
How can they do this to me?"So you seriously want to marry me? My dad wouldn't even be here so you perhaps get your revenge. He wouldn't even care cos he's dead!" I said, yelling . My eyes were tearing up now.
"Oh darling this has nothing to do with your father anymore. I did my research with you and I realised you and I could be powerful together. We could build an empire. With your money and my mind we would be unstoppable. " he said .
"That will never happen. I will make sure of it. You are crazy and you are a pyhscopath. How did you even find me? You have been following me?" I asked.
"Oh darling you are hilarious. This wedding is happening sooner than you think. Did u ask How I found you? Well it wasn't easy as you can imagine. The day I saw you in the elevator was a coincidence. No it was Destiny. I was looking for you asking people if they knew any Ishmael and I had been refered to many wrong people. So that day I was tired of searching. I wanted to go home and sleep. When I saw you, I noticed how you look just like your father. The way you spoke English so fluently was a bonus. Private school influence ofcourse. I wanted to get your name but you were rude so I followed you. After I had your home address, I came by and you Weren't there. Your friend gave me your name and number. I continued my research until I came to know that you were a detective. Impressive isn't it?" He said with a smirk on his face.
I had no words to say to him. I was shocked and I couldn't believe he went through the trouble of finding me. This guy has my home address now so obviously I cant hide from him. I'm not about to run from him either so i will need help to get rid of him.
