When I arrived home, still peeved at Liam's attitude towards me, I realized that my father wasn't home yet. He left a sticky note on our kitchen counter that read, "Out at work in California for the next couple of days. When I get back we will do something fun. -Love,dad."
I grunted, feeling the all familiar pain of being alone once again.
I lugged my bookbag upstairs and into my bedroom before slamming my door shut.
It was only the first day of school and my junior year was already going to be terrible because of Liam Johnson. I still couldn't comprehend why Mr.Dugan didn't make an exception just for me. He always told me that I was his most dedicated student out of all of his classes. He was the one who had persuaded me to go into photography in college in about a year.
How could he do something as infuiating as making me work with an idiot like Liam Johnson.
After about an hour of ranting about how awful my day was to my personal journal that I kept underneath my pillow, my phone rang on my nightstand next to my bed.
It was Alex.
"Hello?" I asked unenthused that he had cancelled on me earlier, causing me to get into that argument with Liam.
"Hey Kate, I'm really really sorry I had to cancel. My boss just kind of forced me to come into work.." he said apologetically.
"It's alright," I lied.
There was a short pause before he began to speak again.
"My brother told me that you guys like argued or something..what about?"
"Your brother is an idiot, that's about it," I said sharply.
"I think he actually wants to do good on this project though..."
"Since when are you on your brother who-ignores-you-in-school's side?"
"I'm not!" Alex defended quickly. "I'm just saying that maybe you guys should try to actually do the project and get a good grade..he needs all the good grades he can get."
I let out a loud grunt that echoed throughout my small bedroom. "Why should I help him get good grades? It's not my fault that he's an idiot." He really was an idiot.
"You should help him because you like helping people..he is a person Kate," Alex said wtih seriousness in his voice.
"Not a very nice person," I retorted.
"Come on Kate..he will try, I promise he will," Alex begged.
"You can't promise he will, only he can do that. So until I hear him say that he will actually help with the project to my face, then I'm not being his partner," I said stubbornly.
"You know you're acting like you're four right?" Alex joked.
"Yes, but school's important to me. Especially photography and video. So I can't suffer a bad grade if your brother isn't going to try."
"He will, don't worry. Come over tomorrow and we will sit down with him and talk through it." Alex said as more of a question, as if asking for my approval.
"Alright fine Dr.Phil, see you tomorrow. Oh! And you owe me videogame day this weekend," I spat out before I hung up my phone abruptly.
I was offended that Liam didn't even have the decency to call me himself and ask if he could do the project with me. He probably paid Alex, I thought to myself.
As frustrated as I was, I managed to cook myself some dinner and take a shower before nuzzling down under the blankets on my bed and falling into a peaceful sleep.
