Loving and Leaving Him

Chapter 12

I saw the bright light cross my eyes then the snaps came. I could feel Ryan holding my hand waiting for me to squeeze to show them I was alive and responsive. I listened to the snaps and counted them as they came. One. Two. Three. I squeezed Ryan's hand three times displaying that I could hear the snaps. I felt his grip tighten as he rubbed the back of  my hand with his thumb slowly.

"Okay Lacy try to open your eyes now, squeeze Ryan's hand if you can hear me properly." some stranger with a deep voice was speaking now I did as told and squeezed Ryan's hand and fluttered my eyes open. At first things were blurry all I saw were fuzzed shapes which made me dizzy. The shapes started to come into focus I could identify them now there was a man in a doctor's coat holding a clipboard and standing over me. I looked over to my left and saw Ryan he looked like as if he hadn't gotten any sleep in days and had been crying or rubbing his eyes a lot. I smiled at Ryan and he gave me a weary smile back still rubbing my hand. 

"Hey beautiful. How's Sleeping Beauty feeling today?" Ryan asked before kissing the top of my head.

"I'm okay but you... when's the last time you slept?" 

"Don't worry about it alright I feel fine I just want you to get better." Ryan smoothed my hair out and stayed calm but I was completely lost and confused.

"Get better? Where are we? What happened? Last I remember you were carrying me to the hospital because I felt dizzy and numb." then things started to register I looked at my surroundings there was a curtain pulled all the way around the bed I was laying in and I was hooked up to a machine monitoring something.

"You fainted or passed out in Ryan's arms as he was bringing you here. For the past two days you've been in a coma state." the doctor looked at me I read the metallic name tag on his shirt it read R. Nellson in bold gray lettering. Dr. Nellson had dirty blonde hair with streaks of silver gray his angular face was wrinkled and tired and he had a little five o'clock shadow going on all his features made him look older then he probably was.

"What was the cause of my symptoms exactly?" I asked still very confused on my situation electricity couldn't have done this I grew more and more concerned the longer it took for Dr. Nellson to answer me.

"Obviously electrocution isn't this dangerous, sure it can cause damage to any part of the body but not anything as dramatic as this. After careful analysis we have found some sort of new electricity you could call it. The proper name is Ictus rays and they are very dangerous. The name Ictus literally means shock in Latin and King Tex's lab tech's over in the grand laboratory of his came up with it. They say it's a new revolution in human punishment. I'm afraid you my dear was the first test subject for this." he took a break to cough and clear his throat.

"What the Ictus ray does is it will deeply effect the nervous system of the subject. Who ever did this to you knew it wouldn't kill you instantly, in fact the Ictus ray slowly shuts down every nerve in your body then it kills the brain off causing a slow and painful death. You're lucky Ryan got you here in time or dead you would have been Darling." Dr. Nellson finished letting his words sink into my head. The word dead stayed in my head for a bit it lingered making me more worried about my fate.

"So the rays are radioactive?"

"In a way yes they are." Dr. Nellson finished with that then started to cough hysterically he gestured his hand signalling his departure leaving Ryan and I alone. Ryan flung himself on me kissing me, embracing me I heard a annoying beeping sound coming from beside me. Ryan started to laugh and I stopped kissing him.

"What?"

"It's just... I can tell that your excited or nervous." he laughed I started to feel my blush.

"And how exactly can you tell that?" I asked crossing my arms.

"Lacy, you're on a heart monitor as soon as we kissed your heart rate increased beeping like crazy! I'm not offended in fact I'm quite honored that I make you so happy." he gave me a cheeky smile gliding his thumb across the top of my head. 

"Well if you can't kiss me without bursting into laughs then you are going to lay with me right here." I moved closer to the monitor so Ryan wouldn't sit on the wires connecting me to the screen. Ryan smiled and sat on my bed with me I smuggled closer to him and he wrapped his arm around me holding me.

"What's the date?" I asked just know wondering how my parents must be feeling right now I missed them terribly.

"It is the second of June." Ryan rubbed my shoulder as his hand laid over top of it I knew my parents would be out of their minds since I was supposed to be back by the first but at this very moment I was with my Ryan and he was holding me and we were together. 

"Lace we have to listen for the nurses okay?"

"I know that they think I'm Melissa, Ry I heard your argument with the nurse." I laughed a bit imagining what would happen if a nurse did come in to see a brother and sister kissing and holding each other like we were. 

"Actually they think you're my sister named Molly Strong like your id says."

"But the picture."

"I know I replaced it with the one I have of you don't worry Mrs. Chang can take your image off  it's loosely put on. They asked about the last name and now your married to some Mr. Strong I have it all under control." Ryan's words were all the comfort I needed I slowly diffed off to sleep in his arms glad that no nurses ruined our moment of happiness.
