I slammed the receiver back onto its cradle the feeling a little less than enthused. My head was still hurting like a mother f***** and I didn't want company, even if it was Axel and his brothers. Especially, if they were coming over to watch some lousy game on my flat screen. I looked around the living room seeing that it was completely trashed. I don't know how that happened; the party was in the building we have reserved for the band. I deduced that it had to have been someone from the band, because they all had a key to my place, as did I for their places.
I went through and collected all the plastic cups, paper plates, and miscellaneous trash, filling up my garbage can. After I took the trash out I gave the living room a once over and besides the used condom I found in the couch cushions, it looked presentable. So I Windexed the coffee table and set out scoops and salsa. Then I set about raiding the fridge for beers. I was getting frustrated when I couldn’t find them in the enormous Electrolux until I remembered I was fresh out, thanks to whoever had snuck in the night before. It didn’t matter one way or another. Axel was ridiculously overprotective over his younger brothers and wigged out when someone drank in front of them. Which happened to be so very hypocritical, because their father was a perpetual drunk before Axel took them. But Axel always responded ‘they are at the age when they can be influenced into being binge drinkers and drug addicts.’
I decided to pull out Pepsi's and Cokes instead. I prefer Coke of the diet persuasion, but I was out of that too. Unfortunately, this was something that I couldn’t blame on someone else. No one in the band drank diet soft drinks.
I sat down on the couch and switched on the TV. I flipped through the channels until I landed on MTV. The interview that we had done months ago was running again and it had just come on. I had missed the original airing due to a vicious hangover.
It still perplexed me why MTV would interview a post hardcore band. I was just getting interested in the program when the Vega’s came thundering through the door like a herd of buffalo's. Axel brushed past me and went into the kitchen, deciding that chips and salsa didn't cut it for snacks, leaving the boys with me. They plopped down on the couch practically on top of each other. They took their twin thing to an extreme, but that was another story for another day.
Even though they were just fifteen they were pretty cool guys. I had spent a lot of time around them over the years and had gotten to know Jesse and Justin individually, which was hard as s*** to do. Mainly because they were the sort of twins that did everything together, which meant talking, laughing, eating, and sleeping together. When they didn’t keep up with dying their hair it was nearly impossible to tell them apart.
I sort of found it ironic or maybe funny, I'm not very good at English Math was my favorite subject in school, that we had two sets of twins in our group and they were at opposite ends of the twin spectrum. Jesse and Justin being the scary-alike twins, and Kitty and Candi being the polar opposite twins. But Jesse and Justin did have some differences once you scratched the surface. Jesse was bi, and prefers girls when he dates; he was smarter than Justin and loves to read. Justin was gay, street smart, and was the younger by two minutes, which drives him crazy.
"Jesse, Justin, 'sup?" I asked, taking a swig of Coke.
"Not much. We had to spend the night with our grandparents last night," they answered in unison in, dry, unenthused tones.
I knew how much they hated staying with their super religious grandparents. They constantly questioned them about their sexuality, hairstyle, and clothing choice. But they could not stay by all their self all night, apparently, it's illegal. In my opinion fifteen is plenty old enough to stay by yourself all night.
