Ha Sun's POV
As I stood there, the realization hit me like a thunderclap—I couldn’t believe who he was. In my mind, I had painted a picture of the kind of guy I was curious about, imagining someone charming and intriguing. But now, standing before me was just him, a man I could only describe as foolish in that moment. My heart raced, and in my surprise, I nearly choked on the tea I had just sipped. Panic coursed through me, and instinctively, I covered my mouth, desperate to hide the deep crimson blush spreading across my cheeks. I inhaled deeply, steadied my nerves, set the cup down, and forced a smile that I truly hoped looked more genuine than it felt.
"Ah, it's a pleasure to finally meet you, Kim Taehyung," I said cheerfully, rising from my seat with an awkward smile plastered across my face, praying he wouldn’t see through the facade I was trying desperately to maintain.
“Ha Sun? What are you doing here? And why is everyone gathered?” he asked, pointing an accusing finger at our parents, clearly still grappling with the unexpected situation.
This dickhead just blurted out my name out loud!Dummy!
There was that familiar annoyance in his voice; it was like a wave crashing against my calm shores.
“Do you know Ha Sun?” Taehyung’s mother chimed in, her face lighting up with a bright smile that seemed out of place amidst the tension. "She’s the one I was telling you about—the girl you’ll be proposing to!"
My heart sank a little further. The word 'propose' hung in the air like a thick cloud of despair, suffocating any possibility of genuine happiness I had thought I could find.
“I think it will be easy for the two of you to get to know each other, so we should make this happen soon,” she added, as if everything could simply be organized like a dinner party.
"Remember your manners, son. They’re your soon to be family in law," Taehyung’s dad warned him sternly, the paternal authority ringing clearly in his voice, somehow piercing through the din of confusion that enveloped us.
“Hey Taetae,” Jimin, his brother, piped up, his gaze lingering on me. “It’s not the worst thing in the world. Ha Sun is really lovely.” My hands instinctively fidgeted together, a mixture of annoyance and anger bubbling beneath the surface as Jimin declared me ‘suitable’ for Taehyung, as if I were some simple puzzle piece that could be effortlessly matched.
Taehyung retreated to the other room, and I could see the disbelieving look etched onto his face. I knew what was wrestling in his mind, and it mirrored my own turmoil. It felt so unfair, thrusting me into such an unpredictable scenario. I couldn’t make decisions lightly, especially not when my heart held someone else captive. I had been in love for what felt like eons, yet those feelings remained concealed—like a secret garden locked away from the world. It was especially agonizing because that secret love, the one that coursed silently through my veins, belonged to none other than Jimin, Taehyung’s own brother.
Jimin greeted all the guests, weaving through the crowd before following Taehyung into the next room. I caught a whisper from Taehyung’s mom to Jimin, something along the lines of, “Please persuade him. You’re the only one who can explain this properly.” Anger flared within me, swirling chaotically. Who was I supposed to yell at? My heart felt like it was about to burst, weighed down by the seeming unfairness of it all.
Needing an escape, I stood up and politely asked for permission to step outside into the garden. They nodded, and I welcomed the chance to retreat from the suffocating atmosphere inside. As I wandered down the garden path, the sight of blooming flowers, vibrant with life, began to ease my frantic thoughts. The fresh air filled my lungs, grounding me momentarily.
