Ha Sun's POV
“Ouch! Hey!” I exclaimed, giving his foot a playful kick and taking a step back. The air thickened with an awkward tension, an uncomfortable silence settling between us. I was relieved that I managed to mask the nervousness that crept onto my face, though inside, I felt like a bundle of tightly wound springs.
“What’s the deal? If you have something urgent to share, just spit it out. And for the record, don’t even think about touching me again,” I said, the words spilling out with a mix of self-assuredness and an undercurrent of emotional risk.
“In your dreams! You really have a high opinion of yourself, huh? Touch you? Please.” He shot back with a chilling tone, laced with sarcasm that pierced through the air like a dart.
“Whatever you say. Now, can we get back on track? What’s this all about?” I replied, trying to shift the conversation back to the matter at hand as I cleared my throat, attempting to shake off the awkwardness.
“Do you have any idea where Jungkookie is? I’ve tried calling him countless times, but it’s like he vanished into thin air. I even tried calling you, to no avail,” he said, his frustration evident in his voice.
“That’s your big emergency? What’s it to me? I hardly know your friend, and quite frankly, I couldn’t care less,” I shot back, my voice rising with irritation.
“Hey, you live next door to him! You must know something. Don’t play dumb with me,” he accused sharply, sliding into a confrontation without a second thought. The unfairness of it all made my head reel.
“I am not playing dumb! I genuinely don’t know anything. You’re better off heading home to mommy rather than hanging around here, waiting for something that might never happen,” I insisted, gesturing towards the street with a pointed finger, as if I could physically push him away.
“You’re such a piece of work. Fine, whatever makes you happy,” he muttered bitterly as he turned to leave, mounting his bike and pedaling away, the tires crunching on the gravel.
“Is this how you treat someone trying to help you? No thanks? You’re really the most annoying person I’ve ever met!” I yelled after him, frustration bubbling over, before finally retreating to the sanctuary of my home.

It was still the dead of night, and yet here I was, my stomach grumbling with hunger pangs. I tried to push it aside at first, but the second wave of rumbling was relentless. I had to eat something if I ever wanted to find peace and drift back to sleep.
“Damn it. There’s no food here,” I grumbled, digging through the sparse contents of my refrigerator. Disappointment settled in deeper as I moved on to the cupboard.
“Nothing here either? Ugh,” I sighed heavily, feeling more and more defeated by the second.
Finally, I threw on an old pair of blue pajamas and a scrunchie to corral my messy hair, and with half-stalke of sleep still clinging to me, I ambled out of the house toward the nearby supermarket. I rubbed my tired eyes, but what I saw next made me stop in my tracks.
“What in the world is he doing there?” I gasped, standing frozen in front of Jungkookie's house. There, sprawled across a lounge chair, was someone—definitely not the person I expected.
As much as I wanted to turn and walk away, curiosity tugged at me, compelling me to investigate. If it turned out to be Jungkookie, I might finally pay him back for earlier! My heart raced as I slowly approached, taking cautious steps closer to the mysterious figure. The face was hidden beneath a black jacket, so I took a chance and gently pulled it back.
