It was a quiet day, several people sat in the shop, slowly sipping their beverages and staring at their phones. I was fiddling with a piece of paper as a woman approached, her glowing golden hair familiar. She was a regular customer.

"Let me guess, black coffee and a slice of chocolate mud cake?" I said smiling. She leaned her elbows on the counter.

"Do I seriously come in that often?" she asked me. I laughed, causing her to smile.

"I'm Aria, by the way, if I come in here so often you should probably get to know my name...Simon." My face dropped.

"How-how do you know my name?"

"It's on your name tag silly." I looked down to my apron, sure enough, there was a small silver badge pinned to my chest with my name printed on it in big bold letters. I dropped my head in my hands. Aria let out a giggle at the sight of me. She ruffled through her purse for a moment and handed me the money.

"I'll go get your order now, hopefully, I'll stop embarrassing myself," I groaned. Aria tried to repress a smile and made her way to one of the many empty tables. I got to work preparing her order.

Aria stared out the window at the darkening clouds that moved into the city. She moved her scarf further up her neck, her hands poking out of long sleeves grabbed the warm drink from my hands. As I placed the cake on the table she spoke, "It looks like it's going to rain, and of bloody course, I didn't bring an umbrella."

"I've got some garbage bags if you want to make a D-I-Y raincoat?" I joked, she snorted in reply.

"No, it's fine. I don't mind the rain actually, it makes me feel alive." She took a sip of her coffee.

"Well then you must feel alive constantly, it's always raining here." She looked up at me, her bottom lip held in her mouth as is she was biting it, thinking. She suddenly moved forward, her mouth close to mine.

"I would feel even more alive if I was intoxicated...fancy taking me out for a drink after your shift?" she whispered. I hesitated.
"Well, I finish late... and I- "

"I can wait, here I'll give you my number."

"And I also have a boyfriend," I finished. She paused, staring down at the coffee cup in her hands.

"Oh," was all she said.

"We can still go out for a drink," I offered, but she shook her head.

"I-I'm gonna go." She pushed the chair out and grabbed her things, heading quickly for the door. Maybe she was homophobic? Well, she would be even more terrified if she knew that my boyfriend was also a mage and a vampire. I rolled my eyes and moved back behind the counter. The rest of the shift was slow, I watched the time, anxious to get to eight, anxious to see Baz and perhaps... continue where we left off.
