Making my way back into the room, I realised that the noises had cleared, Penny's rhythmic breathing loud in the silence. Ash layered the stone floor like a thin layer of fresh snow. Penny leaned up against one of the walls, her eyes blinking hard, shoulders slumped. She was staring at the Queen who was pinned under Baz, he gripped her arms, his fangs bared. I had never seen him so aggressive, so enraged, in a way it terrified me, I had no idea what he was going to do.

"You have taken everything from me, you took my mother, you took my life, you took my future... only a true monster can do such a thing," Baz hissed. The Queen wriggled, trying to break free.

"Killing me won't change anything Baz," she hissed back through gritted teeth. Her voice was steady, but her eyes reflected panic. "It won't bring your mother back."

"You don't think I know that? No, it won't bring my mother back, it won't give me back a life that was wrongly taken from me as a child... it won't stop me from being the creature that I am," Baz lifted his palm above the Queens' face, "but it will stop it from happening again."

A flame sparked to life above his palm, the Queen let out a worried gasp. Baz plunged his hand down hard on to the Queens' chest, her skin crackling and splitting as orange glowing lines weaved their way through her body. She stared blankly up at the ceiling, before crumbling to ash.

As Baz began to rise to his feet, shapes began to move out of the tunnels, the room filling with vampires. Penny stood up straight, moving towards Baz. I hurried into the centre of the room. The three of us stood back to back, flamethrowers, wands and flaming palms held out at the mass of bloodthirsty vampires that surrounded us. Their eyes glowed with anger, fangs protruding from their mouths.

Silent whispers echoed down the tunnels, sparks of gold spinning through the darkness towards the hoard of vampires'. A few caught alight, burning with a golden flame before falling to ash. Heads spun wildly in confusion, the whispers enhancing, more golden sparks soared into the room, igniting the vampires'. "They're here," Penny whispered back to me and Baz.

I only blinked, but the room was soon filled with wand-wielding mages, their dark clothes symbolising their strength in power, which included Penny's brother Premal. Vampires shrieked, ash flying into the air. Through the commotion moved a figure, her startling brown eyes and hair standing out from the crowd.

"Hello sweetheart, you made a good decision about calling for me," said Penelope's mother, the Headmistress of Watford. We all smiled, thankful to see a familiar face.
