"Hey, guys. Look at what Kieran gave me today, he said it was from Rowan. Should I be scared?" I asked, as I showed them the envelope.
"A letter? She wrote you a letter?" Lyndsey asked in confusion, taking the envelope out of my hand. "She's never done this before! I don't know what to tell you, Xael," Will shrugged his shoulders. I sighed, these guys aren't too helpful either, "Well, text us later when you find out what's inside. Rowan's been such a bitch recently, and I'm officially done with her." Lyndsey said as she rolled her eyes.
"Honestly! I hate to jump on the bandwagon, but I agree with you, Lyndsey," Will added, "Well, I've got to get going. My parents and I are going out tonight, and they're dragging me along with them because all I do is lay in bed all day.
"We know, Will..." Lyndsey groaned. Us three waved goodbye to each other one last time and parted ways.
I hopped onto my bus and sat in the back by myself. As I gazed out the window, I noticed that Elias wasn't in school today. Strange, today was supposed to be his first day back since his suspension from the beginning of March. I'll stop by Scraps today, I hope everything's all right.
Once I reached my stop, I noticed that Christophe got out of a green Chevrolet with four passengers inside, "Bye bros. I'll be at Ricky's at seven! Ciao!" He watched as they drove away and went inside, leaving the door open for me.
"Going out later? That's nice, you're making real friends," I said while hanging up my coat. Christophe sucked his teeth, "Go away, Xael. You're nosey, how about you mind your business for once? Stop worrying about my life," He hissed.
Ouch! That one hurt, "O-Okay. Never again," I muttered.
He grabbed all of his belongings and hurried to his room. Hearing the door slam so loudly made my heart sink. Christophe is super sensitive about friends. Back in Manhattan, He and I attended an expensive private school, Alistair's Academy. In that school, there was nothing but fraudulent, spoiled, and pampered brats. Being the smart person I am, I preferred speaking to kids my age outside of school.
But, Christophe did the opposite. Kids at Alistair's Academy would pretend to be his friend, giving him all the attention and gifts anyone would want. Little did he know at the time that it was all a big sham. They only pretended to be his friend, so they could get closer to the sweet life, And it worked.
I felt bad for him, although he acted like he didn't care about getting duped. I knew deep down inside that he was scarred for life. Seeing that he's been hanging out with boys from school, puts a smile on my face.
My phone buzzed, I received a text from Elias!
"Xael! I'm so sorry about today, I got so caught up in doing last minute homework that I overslept! Tomorrow, I'll be in school. I hope you weren't worried about me, I was busy that's all."
"Oh, really? I'm stopping by Just Scraps in TEN! You may join me if you'd like."
"Sounds like a date :)"
Hours Later...
Elias and I hung out in the viewing room once again, we watched Breakfast at Tiffany's and he's very upset. I laughed right in his face, pointing and teasing him. "Xael, it's not funny! Holly didn't really love Paul, it was all a scam!"
"Pffft, be quiet! You clearly don't know that's basically the storyline of the entire movie. She's an escort looking for a man to marry, duh!" I snapped back.
"Whatever, man"
He and I talked for hours, and then I suddenly remembered. Rowan's letter? I should read it with Elias, he'll know what to say. I reached into the right pocket of my coat and tore open the wrinkly envelope.
Elias raised an eyebrow, "What's that? Did you write me a love letter?" He asked, leaning in close to catch a glimpse of what was on the inside. "No stupid, Kieran gave it to me today in History class, it's from Rowan," I said.
"Why couldn't she just give it you herself, she doesn't seem like the type to be shy,"
"She isn't! I asked myself the same question!"
Rowan's been acting differently towards everyone for these past few weeks, I'm hoping that in this letter it'll reveal why.
It reads:
Hey, Xael. It is I, Rowan Adeline Freeman. I've been a bitch, I know. Actually, I AM a bitch. I'm writing this to let you know that this is the end of our friendship, it is best if I cut ties with everyone in Arclight High. I've been hiding this secret from you, Will and Lyndsey for a while now, and it's best if I say this now. I have a huge crush on Elias Ruiz, knowing that I can't have him because of you kills me. I can't sit here and pretend to be happy for you—I wish you would disappear! Goodbye, Xael.
-Sincerely, Your good friend,
Rowan
