With the upcoming game, Xavier was busier and busier every day and I was left to entertain myself. Not gonna lie, I missed that lump of finely chiselled flesh but he wanted to play so bad that I might have actually felt guilty if I asked him not to.
Was my grudge justified? Yes. Would it have mattered if it wasn't? No, but thankfully the day finally arrived so I no longer had to stare at the stolen hoodie that hung on my bedroom door begrudgingly.
"You guys remember my game is tonight right" James reminded everyone at the breakfast table for the millionth time this week, my father sighed a laugh.
"Sweetie, we'll be there" mom reassured him, "When have we ever missed a chance to embarrass you in public?" she teased, dad grinned in agreement.
His silence was only due to him trying to trick Grace into eating the vegetable mush that she hated. He mimicked the sounds of an aeroplane as he swirled the spoon around; her eyes playfully followed.
"Yeah, yeah, can you take me to school now?" I said to James.
"I thought your precious boyfriend was going to pick you up?"
"First of all, he's not my boyfriend and secondly, you're already here dum dum," I said as I grabbed my tattooed Disney princesses knapsack and thumped James' forehead.
"Tell that to lover boy," he said rubbing his forehead and making his way to the front door.
"Have an injury-free day at school kids!" mom shouted behind us and a 'ditto' echoed from my father.

The day flew by and before we knew it, it was game time. James had already left and the family piled into mom's 2015 Ford Endeavour, with dad behind the wheel we got there in no time since he drives like a Cullen.
Seriously kids, pull out a pop-culture encyclopedia and read up on these things. I'm full of useless references.
As we arrived I unbuckled Grace from her car seat and slid out the back seat. I picked her up and cradled her on my hip as I followed mom and dad to the visitors stand. We grabbed a seat in the middle and settled in for the next 48 or so minutes but not before Xavier's eyes scanned the seats for mine and winked at me.
I didn't fall asleep and neither did Grace, so this game wasn't a complete bust; they beat the Stallions 31-24 with James scoring three touchdowns. Xavier tackled just about everyone on the opposing team to the ground and darted to the end zone to score one of the team's 4 touchdowns, he even did a weird little hot potato dance, then a backflip. I have never seen him that excited, it was adorable.
My dad made his way down to the field to engulf James in a giant bear hug and give Xavier a firm handshake for their excellent playing. The local news' camera crew shoved through the crowd and made their way towards the new dynamic duo: James and Xavier. Just before they got to Xavier, a tall, built man with shaggy hair, grabbed him and pulled him away from the crowd and off to the side.
"That wasn't peculiar at all," I said to myself with a brow arched in their direction.
"What is?" a voice said from behind me.
"Baf!" Grace squealed from in mom's lap, pointing to Max standing behind me. He was leaning over so that his head was between mine and moms.
I turned to him with a smile, "aren't you suppose to be on the field? Celebrating the win with your teammates?" I asked, "Or at least showering." I said referring to the pungent smell of sweat coming from him.
He chuckled awkwardly and my mother glared at me briefly for being so callous.
He bent his head towards his chest and sniffed, "you got a point there Lon" he grinned, "see you guys after." He ruffled Grace's hair then jogged down the stands and towards the locker room with the rest of the slowly dissipating crowd of sweaty boys.
