Chapter 13

Ariana's POV

I was about to drift into my sleep. Until someone decided to text me.

I sat up in my bed and turned on the light, but then something from my window caught my attention. "Jake?!?" I shrieked.

I quickly covered my mouth, since everyone at my house were already asleep.

I walker over to my window to get a better look-it was him. Opening the window slowly as I could-because it's really slow and I can't open it because I'm "weak".

"What the hell-" my mouth was suddenly covered by his hand.

"Shhh, just let me in and then you can speak" he whispered before letting himself into my room.

I sat on the edge of my bed, watching as he struggled to close the window. "Just leave it", I said.

He walked over to where I was sitting and took the chair from my desk and sat in it.

"What are you doing here?" I whispered

He sighed, closing his eyes before speaking. "It's about Melissa."

I immediately let out a loud groan-probably too loud because Jake began laughing soon after. Rude.

"What? Are you going to tell me that-she already thought of your baby names? Y-you're wedding plans? What!" My voice getting louder and louder by each word.

He stared at me in complete shock at my outburst. Shaking his head while sighing. "Then what?"

"She used me"

Then. It was my turn to stare a him in shock because-well. I should've seen it coming. One-Melissa is only into Hayes. Two-she hates me so she'll do anything to make me mad. And three-I've been hanging out with Jake while Hayes was away so, she probably got the wrong message there.

I leaned in-and no, I'm not gonna kiss him-I leaned in to give him a hug. That's what he needs at this point. A friend.

"How did you find out?"

"She, was talking to her friends through her phone while I was out of her room-and yes, we were at her house. Anyways, I was slowly coming back into the room because I heard her now talking to someone on the phone-about me and Hayes. She specifically said that she wanted to make Hayes jealous and that it didn't work at all"

his cheeks began to turn pink as he started to talk more into the story.

"She also said that she was going to break up with me on that day-today, actually. So i just grabbed my jacket and walked out of the nut house. I got the text that she broke up with me. But I didn't really care. I had a feeling something like this was gonna happen but I didn't know it would happen-now!"

I grabbed his hands as he looked down in embarrassment. "I'm so sorry this happened Jake. I wish I could do something for you to help" i admitted

He looked up with a smile, wet tears and stained cheeks. "Can I ask you something? Ari?" He said seriously.

I nodded slowly, unsure on what he might do. He leaned in and gave me a hug. "Thank you" he whispered

"For what?" I pulled away

"For everything. For being there for me and for-saying that I should be my true self" he smiled

We stared at each other for awhile. His eyes flickering to my face, then to my lips, and then back to my face again.

"C-Can I-can I kiss you?" He asked so suddenly

"Why?" I asked sternly

He sighed. "I lied about liking Melissa" he admitted.
