Everything was a blur and I was frozen in place.
Screams from Gladers being attacked filled my ears. The chilling shrieks of Grievers came from everywhere, and only one thing popped into my mind.
Minho.
I quickly turned and looked at the group dispersing, searching for Minho. I caught a glimpse of his spiky hair and we made eye contact just long enough to see him mouth the word run.
I sprinted towards the council hall and passed the med hut, instantly catching my attention. I turned and ran over, barging in and saw Clint and Jeff holding up Alby, their eyes wide with fear.
"What's going on?" Jeff asked.
"The Grievers... they're attacking" I managed to say between breaths, "we need to get to the council hall". They nodded and lifted Alby, making their way to the building just a short sprint away. We ran.
To our left and right, Gladers were being attacked. Grievers jumped out of nowhere and pierced and stung anyone in their way. A group ran towards us, and I realized it was Thomas and the others. We both ran for the Homestead and met up.
"Everybody okay?" Thomas huffed. We all nodded. I looked amongst the group and didn't see Minho.
"Where's Minho?" I asked nervously.
"He went to get weapons" Thomas replied. I silently prayed that he was still okay. Sure he could outrun those things, but they were everywhere. No one was safe.
The shrieks sounded nearer and nearer. We ran out, and were confronted by a huge Griever ahead. Its mechanical tail shot upright, revealing a gigantic claw that was just ready to attack. Theresa grabbed a nearby fire-jar and threw it at the monster, which exploded into flames and let out a high-pitched scream. It was distracted with enough pain to let us get by.
"Everybody go, go, go! Thomas shouted. We ran past it and across the Glade towards the Council Hall, its metal legs clanging as it bound after us.
"Keep going!" Thomas shouted. We were almost there.
"Alby!" Jeff yelled. I turned back and saw him on the ground, struggling to get up. The Griever came to a stop before us, preparing to attack again. Thomas held out a machete.
"Come on!" he screamed at the beast. Just as it was about to leap at us, a spear flew into its side. We looked over and saw Minho, Newt, and Frypan leading a pack of boys, holding all sorts of weapons.
"Come on, let's go!" they yelled as we all ran to the building. We tumbled in, joining the rest of the surviving Gladers. I fell to the ground and breathed a sigh of relief. Feeling a pair of hands on my shoulders, I looked up and saw Minho. I leaped up and flung my arms around his neck, nuzzling my face into the crook between his collarbone and jaw.
"I was so scared" I whimpered, breathing heavily. I felt his arms tighten around my waist.
"Me too" he whispered, moving one hand up behind my head, pulling me closer to his chest. A loud bang came from across the room, and everyone looked towards the sound. Minho quickly pushed me behind him, still holding my hand tightly.
Suddenly the roof began to shake. The Griever was above us, walking about, and made its way to the center of the building. Its claw shot through the roof and broke a beam in half, making the ceiling collapse on us all.
They were everywhere. Anyone close to the doors or walls was pulled through, their screams echoing through the empty Glade. Another claw punched through a wall right next to Chuck and my heart stopped.
"Chuck no!" I screamed. The claw grabbed him and pulled him upwards. Thomas managed to grab him just in time, and pulled him towards us. A couple others and I grabbed him too and tried to pull him back in.
