My dad was deployed in Bosnia for 9 months just after my oldest brother was born. From what he tells me, you are very rarely in battle, you are normally preparing for the possibility of a battle and doing lots of guarding and stuff, but then again, he wasn't in the battle part of it all, although he was bombed at one point. (He was lucky and made it out without a scratch on him :) ) Also, I'm 12, I don't know what I'm talking about! So yeah. I think I'm going to have Jack do the same type of of stuff that my dad did while he was deployed, so here you go! :

<Jack's POV>

I pace the area I am supposed to guard, watching out for the boat that is supposed to be arriving with our supplies, I still cannot see it.

"McLoughin! Get over here!" Yells my commander.

I jog over to him. "Yes, sir?"

"I hear you've been missing your daughter?" He asks me.

"Yes, sir." I answer.

"I'm sorry. You're wife caring for her?" He asks.

"No, sir, my girlfriend isn't financially stable for the both if them even with the compensation for me being out here. We have a lot of expenses, my daughter got sick a lot as a child so we are still in debt from that. She's supposed to move to America with a friend of mine." I say.

"You sent her to America?" He asks, shocked.

"Yes, sir." I mumble.

"Do you know when you get home?" He asks.

"8-9 Months." I respond.

"Will she come home when you get back?" He asks.

"Yes, sir, or if my girlfriend gets a promotion at their job it's a possibility for her go home then. But if I get killed out here, my friend becomes her legal guardian and she'll live out there with him, permanently."

He nods, offers his apologies and waves me back to my post.

-1 Week Later-

Mail day. I wait in line as the commander walks back and forth between us handing mail to each soldier.

My heart flutters as the commander stops in front of me and hands me an envelope.

I hold back the urge to immediately tear it open.

As soon as the commander finishes passing out all the parcels and letters everybody in my troop runs to their beds to tear open their mail.

I smile as I read the note.

Séan,

How are you doing? Claire and I miss you a ton, even if it's only been 2 weeks, it feels like forever. Claire is now settled in California and started school a few days ago. She says she already has some new friends. I'm proud of her. Mark says she stares at her phone for hours to see if you or I will text, call or Skype her. Mark's been called to the school about that twice now. :( it's a struggle. She asked me tell you she misses you and to call her anytime even if you can only talk for 2 minutes at 3am. I think she just wants to hear your voice or see your face again. Mark says he wakes up at night because she falls asleep listening to your videos. It's pretty cute.

Ethan, Mark, Robin, Felix, Bob and Wade have all posted videos about you. Mark broke down talking about taking care of Claire, he's incredibly honored.

Call Claire as soon as you can. She needs it more than I do.

I miss you. I love you so much. I hope you know that.

Much love,

Signe

I didn't realize I was crying as I read the note. I clutch it to my chest and pull out my laptop. I open up Skype and search up a certain little girl's name.

Brrringgg...

Come on...

Brrringgg...

Come on...

BING!

For those of you who don't get it. The Bing represents the Skype call being accepted.

CLIFFHANGER!

I'm such an annoying little bitch. :D
