Evanna's POV

It was my 17th birthday. One year in London. Eight years of chasing the dream of music. Seventeen years of life. And this last year had definitely been the best. Despite missing my family, I had friends I loved, a flat I loved, a job I'd been dreaming of and a boy who I couldn't seem to work out my feelings towards. It wasn't unpleasant exactly - when is having to kiss and spent time with undeniably hot boys ever? - but Nathan Sykes sure was doing a royal job of making me as confused and distracted as ever.

Flashback

"A swing? We have a swing?!" my mouth popped open as I stood in the garden outside our house. The other children surrounded me. My friend Lorraine stood next to me, her pale grey eyes fixed upon the swing. Malcolm towered over us, smiling at the look of amusement on our faces.

"Yes, we do." Mrs McDonald smiled kindly pulling on one of my pigtails affectionately. "After all. Your fifth birthday is a very important one. Off you all got then."

We didn't need to be told twice. We all raced towards the rusty second hand swing and threw ourselves on top of it. Malcolm, despite being the oldest of all of us was jumping excitedly towards it as well.

We strategically perched on the swing so we could all fit on it at once, not minding that this meant it could only remain stationary.

"Bernadette, do you want to join in?" Lorraine called up to where a 16 year old girl was standing next to the McDonalds. She shook her head, smiling, her arms protectively folding over a gently protruding stomach.

"LOSERS!" a group of teenage boys called from across the street. "Got any rubbish anyone? Might as well chuck it that garden, it seems to be where you dump unwanted things!"

Malcolm stood up quickly, his face reddening with anger. I dropped my face to the ground. I felt as though I had just been slapped with a familiar hand.

"Hey, Bernadette over here!" One lad taunted and she turned unwillingly to face him. "Fancy a good time? Rumour has it you would be up for it?"

"SLUT!" Another boy shouted derisively. Bernadette burst into tears and ran inside. The McDonalds following her in anxiously. The other children followed suit. Malcolm pulling a packet of cigarettes out of his sleeve and stalking off down an alley way in the opposite direction.

I was left alone once more. I reached out and touched the swing. The rust flaked off the seat and fluttered to the ground. I watched it before jumping onto the swing myself and enjoying my present.

***

Pushing away my memories, I concentrated on stepping over the gap off the tube and onto the platform. I had come so far in the last twelve years.

It was 5pm - I had just finished work and was heading home. I had left early this morning so I hadn't yet seen anyone and I missed the company of my friends. It was only a couple of minutes walk back to my flat.

"Charlie?" I called when I arrived through the front door.

"HAPPY SEVENTEENTH!" I heard a voice yell ecstatically, the doors separating us were muffling the sound slightly.

"Er, thanks?" I said uncertainly, smiling at how his enthusiastic tone was somewhat overshadowed by his lack of appearance. I stepped towards his door and made to push it open.
