The Hopeless Romantic

Chapter: 8

*Benjamin's P.O.V.*

I anxiously paced my room. "Why didn't she come after me?" I plopped down on my bed then ran my fingers through my hair.

Shit! Dad!

I hopped up and rushed to the door. As I reached for the doorknob, I heard someone talking. I pressed my ear against the door and quietly listened.

"Just think about what I've told you, Kylee. Maybe he's had a change of heart, but just in case be on your guard. I'd hate to see such a nice girl like you broken."

Shit, I shouldn't have left them alone together... He ratted me out.

"I understand, Riley. Thank you for expressing your concerns, and sharing the information you have with me."

"It's no problem. Now try to get some sleep."

"Yes sir."

Shit! Think Benjamin. Think.

I hurried back over to my bed and laid down on my side facing with my back towards the door. A knock came from the door. "Come in." I heard the door slowly open.

"You're clothed right?"

I turned over to see Kylee walking in with her eyes closed. I chuckled. "Yeah, for now at least."

She blushed a deep red and closed the door behind her.

"Come lay down with me." I have to regain her trust before I try anything.

She strolled over then laid down next to me. I wrapped my arms around her, and she laid her head against my chest.

This is just a minor set back... A minor one.

Then I heard a Bing!

"Oh, sorry Benjamin. That was me hold on." She came out of my embrace and sat up to check her phone.

I looked up at her. Her eyes were clouded, and she had a poker face.

"Who is it, Kylee?" If she won't tell me then it's Matt.

She looked at me. "It's my mom. She just texted, Goodnight honey."

I sighed in relief. "Okay, well goodnight Kylee." I sat up and kissed her cheek.

"Goodnight Benjamin." She smiled at me then looked back at her phone.

There's no way it's her mom.

I laid back down turning away from her. I'm gonna have to talk to Matt.

I then started to doze off.

*Kylee's P.O.V.*

I looked over to see if Benjamin had fallen asleep yet. He was breathing softly, so I assumed that he was. I exhaled and relaxed.

How could such a nice guy just want something like that?

My phone chimed this time. That's Matt's text tone.

I looked at my phone. Who texts someone this late at night?

3/4/2022 10:30 PM : Matt: "Hey Kylee. You up?"

10:31 PM: Me:"Yeah, what's up?"

Matt's typing bubble appeared, disappeared then reappeared.

10:34 PM: Matt: "We need to talk. I've got some information that I really think you should know."

10:34 PM: Me: "Let me guess. It's about Benjamin?"

10:35 PM: Matt: "Yeah. You'll listen, right?"

I sighed then looked at Benjamin. I guess everyone knew but me.  I looked back at my phone.

10:37 PM: Matt: "Are you okay? Benjamin didn't do anything to you did he?"

I smiled. 10:38 PM: Me: "Why do you care?"

My heart started beating quickly. Does he still- My phone chimed. My eyes widened, and I smiled brightly.

10:42 PM: Matt: "Look Kylee. I can't explain everything right now, but I never stopped loving you. That's why I want to make everything right again. I miss your smile. Your laugh. Just... You. I miss being by your side, and you being by mine."

10:44 PM: Me: "What about Sam?"

10:45 PM: Matt: "Again. Can't explain everything right now."
10:45 PM: Matt: "Look Kylee, we just need to talk in person. Are you free tomorrow?"

10:46 PM: Me: "No. I'm at Benjamin's Dad's house for the weekend."

Matt's text bubble appeared then disappeared, but this time it didn't care come back. I waited a few more minutes.

Did he fall off the face of the world all of a sudden?

11:00 PM: Matt: "Sorry had to do something. Anyways that sucks. Maybe I could take you out for lunch after school Monday?"

11:01 PM: Me: "Sure, I'll come up with some excuse to tell Benjamin. XD"

11:02 PM: Matt: "Cool. I'll met you right after Monday then, so we can go together."

11:03 PM: Me: "Alright then."

There was a few minutes of silence. All I could hear was my heart pounding. Then Matt's text bubble appeared again.

11:08 PM: Matt: "Goodnight. I love you Kylee."

My heart leapt. What do I say? Well... Do I still love him? I mean, yeah, but right now isn't the time to say anything like that.

11:10 PM: Me: "Goodnight Matt."

I put my phone down then laid down next to Benjamin. I exhaled heavily.

I really hope that this doesn't all fall to pieces...
