Outside Matt's Place  *Kylee's P.O.V*

I grew tense as I sat in my car waiting for Matt to come out. Matt and I have done stuff like this before, but why am I so nervous right now?

I was deep in my thoughts, and jumped when I heard a tap on the window.

I looked over to see Matt. He smiled waving. I unlocked the door, and he opened it.

He quickly got in and closed the door."So, where are we going to do this?"

I exhaled putting my head on the steering wheel. Confusion filled my voice. "Matt. I don't know if I can." There was a brief silence. Was this what I wanted? Maybe it would just relax me.

Matt broke the silence, but he had worry and slight disappointment in his voice. "Look Kylee. I'm not gonna force you. If you don't want-" I subconsciously kissed Matt.

It was out of confusion and worry. I didn't know what I was doing or why I was. I didn't know how to handle the situation that I was in now, nor how I was going to go about dealing with it. Maybe I just thought Matt had the answers to all my problems.

Matt kissed me back. I couldn't figure out why he didn't just stop me. Maybe he wanted to, but just didn't for my sake.

Why doesn't this feel right... I can't-

Matt interrupted my thoughts. "Kylee..." He broke the kiss and looked me in the eyes. His were clouded in worry and confusion. "Are you sure you wanna do this? I know how you are, and I don't want you beating yourself up because of this."

My heart sank. I sat back down and gripped the wheel. "Matt. I don't know if I can be in-"

Matt's phone rang, and he checked it. His expression completely changed, and he smiled turning towards me. "Oh! Uh, sorry Kylee. I need to take this." He got out answering his phone and closing the door.

I laid my head on the wheel, and sighed in defeat. My heart sank even more.

What was I doing? I should have went home...

"No... This is just wrong... Maybe I'm just not in the right state of mind for this..." I rolled down the window. "Matt, I'm gonna head home."

Matt turned and looked at me. "Alright Kylee. Drive home safely." He completely dismissed what happened. He waved as I drove away.

"I'm doing the right thing. I know I am." I sighed.

He's happy with someone else. It would be wrong to do anything else, but be friends with him... He's moved on, and now it's time for me to do the same.

My shoulders and the rest of my body relaxed.

Benjamin. Maybe he's my chance.

The Next Day

I got out of my car softly singing the music I was listening to. I could feel the snow crunch underneath my feet, but suddenly my earbuds were pulled out. I quickly turned around to see my prankster, but my eyes were covered before I could.

"Guess who?" There was a happiness in my sight kidnapper's voice.

"Hmm. My mom?" My eyes were uncovered, and I saw Benjamin pouting.

"Do I really sound like your mother?"

I pretended that I was thinking. "Now that I think about it;your voice is pretty high."

Benjamin chuckled slightly shaking his head. "I know! I'm as squeaky as a mouse." He then pretended to be a mouse; he was squeaking and pretending to eat cheese.

I laughed with my eyes slightly tearing up. "Okay! Okay!" I patted Benjamin. "You're such an embarrassment." I playfully pushed him wiping my tears away.

He laughed smiling bright at me. He then checked his watch then looked back at me. " I think we should get going. Class starts in a bit." He pointed behind him.

I nodded, and we walked off to class.

Later in the Band Room

I was getting my flute out when I was picked up by the waist.

Eek! Who's picking me up?!?

"We've got marching band starting in a few days. I know you're signing up."

I looked back to see Sam. She put me down. She was wearing a white shirt with a rose on it, and some jeans. Her short pixie cut dirty blonde hair looked a little more matted than usual. Either she's going through a rough time, or she partied a bit too hard last night and didn't have much time this morning to do anything to it.

I smiled at her holding up my flute, which was still in its black case covered with heart and flower stickers. "Not playing flute, but sure Sam."

"Awesome, just don't forget. Alright?" She pointed at me winking.

"Definitely." She waved at me then walked away.

"Marching Band?"

I looked over to see Benjamin walking towards me. I waved smiling at him. "Yeah. I'll be a second year."

His eyes filled with wonder, and his voice filled with excitement. "Awesome. What's it like? I've always wanted to-"

"Hey Kylee!" Matt tackled me. He let me go then looked over at Benjamin. They had a mini stare down, but I could see flames welling up around them.

I waved my hand in front of Matt's face. "Hey, what's up Matt?"

He snapped out of his trance and slowly turned his attention from Benjamin to me. "Sam told me that you're doing marching band again this year."

"Oh yeah. I was just talking to Benjamin about it too." I smiled brightly and pointed to Benjamin. "I think he wants to join."

They looked at each other again. Matt scoffed, and Benjamin rolled his eyes and looked at me.

"Yeah, I was thinking about either trombone or alto sax." Benjamin placed a hand on my shoulder. "What are you marching, Kylee?"

I smiled brightly and spoke with excitement. "Oh! I was going to march trombone or try out for guard."

"Well, I'm in the drum line." Matt spoke sternly butting in.

I turned towards Benjamin in excitement. "Benjamin! You should totally march trombone! That way I have a chance at being your leader."

Benjamin pretended to think about it then looked down at me smiling. "So... If I march trombone then you will too?"

I jumped in excitement then got serious. "Yeah! Though fair warning I'm not an easy leader. You'll have to work hard if you're going to be in my section."

Benjamin shrugged smiling more. "Well looks like I'll be your best rookie this year then."

I took a superhero pose proudly. "As your future section leader it will be my duty to make sure you get rookie of the year!"

"Awesome, well I gotta go, Kylee. I'll call you later." Benjamin hugged me then walked away waving. I waved back.

Matt lightly shoved me. "Are you trying to make me jealous?" He seemed furious.

I looked over at Matt. "What are you talking about?"

"You know what I'm talking about. You're ignoring me and talking to Benjamin."

I crossed my arms over my chest rolling my eyes. "Matthew, we aren't dating. If I want to talk to other guys I can."

"Well maybe I want us to be!"

My eyes went wide, and Matt covered his mouth with his hand.

I reached out to him. "Matt... Are you-" Before I could finish Matt rushed out. My heart fluttered.

He still cares...

Then I placed my hand on my chest and exhaled heavily. "But.. what about that girl...?"
