Chapter 1
"Chad! Give it back!" Arielle screamed.
"Nope, you'll only get it back if you beat me at basketball." He said with a cocky smile and arrogant tone.
"But Daysi would want you to give it back."
"Too bad she doesn't go here AND you can't call her." He waved her phone in the air.
"UGHH!!! FINE, I'll play basketball with you."
The match was one on one. They had agreed before the match started that the winner had to score three points, and they would keep Arielle's phone for the day. It was a cloudy day, but it wasn't cold despite it being December. Arielle was dressed in a blue t-shirt and white shorts, her tennis clothes. Her long dark brown hair was in a ponytail and her brown eyes sparkled with determination. Chad was in a black t-shirt, that defined his muscle from football, and red basketball shorts. His dirty blonde hair was in his eyes and he pushed them to the side revealing his blue-grey eyes. His freckles barely visible in the dim lighting. Arielle bounced the basketball, moved to her left and tried to shoot. Chad anticipated it and blocked her at his height of 6 feet. He took the ball and made a point. He needed to score two more points while Arielle still needed three. They faced each other again but this time Arielle stepped on Chad's shoes using them as a ladder as she had many times before. Chad fell to the floor in pain and Arielle took the opportunity, shot the ball, and made a three pointer. She yelled "ASIAN FOR THE WIN" and jumped up and down happily. Chad got up and started to accuse her of foul play, but then stopped when she hugged him, grabbed his hand and started to pull him towards their bags. He thought it was okay if she cheated as long as she was happy, and made that sparkling smile that he couldn't resist seeing.

Arielle was on her way to her dorm room after she got her phone back. She loved her high school,Valley Hill. She thought the irony of the name described her life perfectly. She also loved the campus with its many trees, grass areas, and best of all HUGE library. The teachers weren't too bad either. Last year as a freshmen she hated the school because all her friends: Daysi, Samantha, Faith, and Eli went to different schools. Daysi, Samantha, and Eli attended Citrus View, a boarding school an hour away. Arielle had gone to Valley Hill because it had a great sports program and her family had thought it a better boarding school than Citrus View. She had been happy when she found out Chad and their friend, Carlos, were going to Valley Hill. Arielle looked forward to having a roommate, but had trouble getting along with her when they actually met. Her roommate, Camila Elizabeth Smith, was free spirited and had an on-and-off again relationship with Carlos, Chad's roommate. Arielle had reached her dorm room and unlocked it with her key. She opened the door to find Cam on her laptop watching the latest Youtube videos. She took in Cam's appearance. Cam's dyed cherry-colored hair was wet from showering. She had taken off her violet-colored contacts revealing her black eyes. Arielle saw the freckles across Cam's nose even with her golden sun-kissed skin.
"Why are you sweaty? It is sickening." Cam said with a scowl upon her beautiful face.
It was Cam's bad attitude and lack of filter that made Arielle dislike her in the beginning, but by now she was used to it. Arielle recalled one time last year when she had been blow drying her hair in the morning after showering and Cam had thrown a shoe at her to make her stop because she was "trying to sleep." Arielle now knew to blow dry when Cam was awake or whenever Cam was out of the room. Arielle snapped out of her flashback when Cam shot her an annoyed look.
"Let me guess. You were with Chad?'
"How did you know?"
"When are you not with Chad? You are practically dating."
"Not even! We are just friends."
"Oh really? Then why are you blushing?"
"Forget it. I'm tired and sweaty. I'm gonna go shower then go to bed. Tomorrow I'm going to the mall to buy everyone's Christmas gift."
"Okay. Oh wait! Can I come? I need to get Carlos's gift. We are back together."
"Yeah. Sure. Why not? You can come. The more the merrier, right?"
