It was 3 PM and Arielle's party was in full swing. A few juniors and seniors they didn't know had shown up. No one had really minded them crashing the party though, because everything was still under control. Arielle had been talking to people and dancing the whole time. She had seen Chad talking to his football buddies, and actually letting Andrew hang out with him. They had disappeared for a while, and Arielle wondered where they could have wondered off to. She stepped away from the dance floor to use the restroom, and on the way she saw Chad, Carlos, and Andrew talking and laughing. Chad seemed a bit tense but not as much as before.
Maybe they could become friends. Well at least Chad is trying to be nice. Hmm where's Cam?
Arielle looked around for her roommate's red hair but found nothing.
Maybe she's outside... oh well first I gotta pee.
Arielle quickly went to the bathroom. She noticed the light was on and heard yelling. There was NOT going to be a fight in her dorm. Arielle flung the door open, ready to stop what was happening. She was not prepared for what was in front of her.
Inside the bathroom, Cam had a guy headlock. There was an unopened bottle of beer in the sink. The guy looked scared out of his mind. He was one of those kids that barely managed to become a senior. He was still failing every now and then. Arielle had seen him a few weeks ago smoking something with his friends in the forest. Arielle thought that sort of thing didn't happen in South Dakota. Well, you learn something new everyday.
"Cam!!! What the hell are you doing?! What's with the random dude?"
"THIS IDIOT THOUGHT IT WOULD BE OKAY TO DRINK SOME BEER IN OUR BATHROOM!!!!" She kneed the guy in the stomach. Cam REALLY hated when people drank. Hardly anyone knew this, but Cam had almost gotten into a car accident with some kids at her old school.
She had gone to a party with some seniors and got a buzz. Her other friends had gotten drunk but still needed to go home. They all got into a car and started to leave. They had come to an intersection, and the light was red but they were too busy listening to music to notice. The driver kept driving. A semi truck was on the opposite side. Both drivers saw each other and swerved to the right. They didn't hit anything or anyone. The semi truck driver quickly called the cops. The kids were brought in for questioning. Cam explained everything since she was most sober. They got let off easy, and Cam had sworn away alcohol since then. She was terrified that if it did happen again, she wouldn't be so lucky.
While Arielle had been remembering Cam's story, Cam had yelled at the kid and told him never to drink. He quickly agreed but just to make sure he got the idea Cam slapped him. The boy left their dorm soon after.
"I would be mad at you for using violence, but the guy deserved it. Nice job. That slap really sounded like it hurt. Damn, what would I do without you?!" Arielle hugged Cam. Cam just smiled.
"Oh! So what's with that Andrew kid? New boyfriend?" Cam wiggled her eyebrows and made kissing gestures.
Arielle blushed. "He is NOT my new boyfriend. He's just a friend. Our moms are friends and we went to the same middle school. Our relationship is platonic. Trust me."
"Good because if you weren't I'd have to slap you. I ship Ariad all the way. Besides I think it would make things awkward between you and Chad."
"Hmmmm maybe. Okay yeah things would be awkward but Chad is just protective. He doesn't want to see my heartbroken. And even if I did date Andrew, he wouldn't break my heart. He couldn't hurt a fly."
"I'll be the judge of that. But even if he somehow manages to break your heart, I'm kicking him where the sun don't shine."
"I would expect nothing less. Now can you please leave I need to pee."
"Okay and I'm done with people so I'm gonna start kicking everyone out. 'Kay? Awesome
Arielle simply nodded her head. She was happy her friends had gone to the trouble of throwing her a party. Arielle had so much fun. She danced, sung, and caught up with some friends. She couldn't ask for a better day or better friends.
When Arielle exited the bathroom she found another surprise. Chad, Cam, Carlos, and Andrew were in the kitchen huddled up.
"What are you guys doing?"
The boys and Cam turned around. Cam was holding a plate of cupcakes that spelled out "welcome back".
"Awww you guys are lovely! I love you!"
Arielle rushed forward and gave them one big group hug. Andrew felt a bit awkward like he was intruding but dismissed it. He was already kinda their friend.
The red haired girl, Cam?, Yeah I'm pretty sure she doesn't like me. Maybe if I become friends with Chad and Carlos she'll like me.
Andrew had never seen Arielle so happy. She seemed so relaxed and comfortable around these people... especially around Chad. He wondered if they were together. By the way they acted and stole glances around each gave him the suspicion they liked each other. Hopefully he was wrong. Andrew had an unrequited crush on Arielle since eighth grade. He thought the feelings had disappeared but yet he got a queasy feeling around her. He wanted Arielle to be his girlfriend but now more than ever he suspected she would reject him. He loved how he could talk about books with Arielle. Sure he had done that with Daysi and Eli back at Citrus View but it wasn't the same. They would talk about books that he never read. Eli and Daysi also had different opinions about certain things and would start arguing. With Arielle he loved the way she would listen to him then give her his opinion. Her eyes would light up and she would use hands motions. He wished he could spend more time with her alone.
Arielle pulled away from everyone and took a cupcake. It tasted divine! Cam had done a fantastic job with the cupcakes. They finished having one cupcake. After they started cleaning up. There wasn't much of a mess. They filled one large garbage bag with plates, cups, and food. Surprisingly there were no stains to be found. Cam was tired and decided to go to take a nap. She kissed Carlos goodbye and waved goodbye to Chad. Andrew got a nice scrutinizing glare. Like if he did anything bad while she was gone he would pay for it.
"Okay well I'm exhausted. Bye guys."
Arielle hugged each boy goodbye. Carlos was first out the door then Andrew. Chad lingered behind.
" Guess I'll see you tomorrow. Maybe we can hang out tomorrow after classes. Just the two of us. I have this really cool place I want to show you. Then we can do homework there and you can tell me what happened at your mom's.
"Yeah. Sure. Sounds like a great plan. See you tomorrow. Bye Chad."
Arielle shut the door and went to her room. She changed into boxers and a loose shirt. She decided to unpack. After Arielle finished, she did some homework. It was ten o'clock. Arielle had had one eventful amazing day. Hopefully her life could be just as amazing.
