X. The game is on

"Who's there?" 

Who could've thought that a simple question would bring so much fear to my heart. My heart was already beating like mad because of the running, but Ayato's question made everything a lot worse. I had to cover my mouth with a scarf so the vampire wouldn't hear my breathing.

Ayato was slowly getting closer to the bush I was hiding behind.
"I asked, who's there. Answer me or I will make you sorry for spying on me." Even if I wanted, I couldn't move a muscle. I was frozen on the spot, like a white statue. He's going to kill me here. He will drown me in that lake somehow and no one will find me. My mom and Lea will think that I no longer cared about them.

Ayato was already near the bush, spreading it's branches wide open. I felt snow fall over my head and grey jumper, covering my back.
"Ah, it's only a wolf." What? Did he just mistake me for a wolf? I couldn't believe I was saved. Ayato walked away, leaving the frozen lake. He went to the direction of the mansion. I could finally breathe again with more ease.

I stayed in snow for a little while longer to get myself a bit more calmed down. Once my heart stopped acting like a woodpecker, I turned around to leave on the same path I came here, but I froze once again

There it was - a huge black wolf with big yellow eyes and long fluffy fur, sitting like a trained family dog - staring right at me. It was about two meters away from me, curiously sniffing the air.

"G-good b-boy." I slowly crawled backwards, but the wolf slowly crawled towards me.
"G-go away." It just walked closer. There was no more space for me to go anymore - bush was already pressed against my back and the wolf just slowly walked closer to me.

I closed my eyes in despair. Running from a vampire - jumping on the wolf.
I could hear it's fur moving and the snow crunching under it's paws. I was waiting for pain. I was waiting for it to bite off my face and swallow it. But instead of pain - I felt something warm and wet on my cheek. I slightly jumped up in surprise.

I opened my eyes just to meet a pink tongue coming my way once again. This time, the animal licked my nose. I was shocked. Why was this big and dangerous looking wild wolf licking my face like a home puppy?
"Good..." Let me check just to be sure. Not a boy, "girl. Good girl." Wolf happily licked me once again. I slowly put my trembling hand on her head and rubbed it. She closed her eyes, enjoying the sensation.

But suddenly, she turned her head away from me as if she heard something dreadful deep in the woods. She stood up, bit down into my jacket and started pulling me towards the mansion. I wasn't about to argue with a wolf bigger than me so I did what she wanted me to do - I stood up and started running towards the old building. She was running in front of me, showing me the way.

After a while I heard it too - howls of the other wolfs. They were still far away, but the fact that I heard them this time made me run even faster. They were getting closer. Moments later, I saw the light. I was so happy to see the mansion, I almost started crying. My black savor stopped near the gates, waiting for me.

But the moment I stopped to thank her - she jumped on me, slamming me into the snow. This time she wasn't licking me, no. This time she was digging snow on top of me. I've tried to sit up, but when I did - she ran behind me and pushed me face first into the snow once again.

"Wha... Stop!" But she started digging again. Once the layer of snow was big enough for her satisfaction, she sniffed me. But something was wrong because she growled. My heart started beating faster once again. But she turned around and ran off.

"What a weird animal..." I stood up and started cleaning off the snow from myself.
"I'm all wet and cold now." I was about to step into the territory of the vampires, but the black animal pushed me down once again. But this time, she had a few branches of trees in her mouth. They had strong smell.
