I looked around for a taxi but all I could see was a crowd of wierd people either smoking or drinking.
"Shit", I muttered as I walked ahead on the street aimlessly, hoping to find a cab here, tears still streaming down my cheeks. I felt so weak and miserable. I was going to fall down until I saw a bench in a park nearby. I dragged myself towards it with all the strength left within me. I sat on it and buried my face in my palms, sobbing my heart out. I wanted to share this with someone whom I could trust and that someone was my mom. Nobody but she understood me.
"Mom", I whimpered. "Please come back. I miss you."
I shivered when I heard a noise coming from behind the bushes. I started hyperventilating, my adrenaline ordering me to run. What if there is a creep out there - I shuddered at the thought. I saw someone coming towards me, that someone was biluminous and I covered my eyes.
"Sanjana", That someone whispered.
I removed my hands from my eyes and gawked at the beautifun person wearing white robes.
"M-Mom?" I stammered, pinching my cheek in order to make it clear whether I was hallucinating or not.
"Yes, my dear?", She smiled.
"But, how did..."
"I was worried about you." She sat beside me and hugged me. I hugged her back, feeling the warmth radiating from her body and inhaling her sweet fragrance which reminded me of the last hug we shared together before her death. I felt so secure in her arms.
"I miss you very much, mom. Please come back.", I rambled in between my sobs.
"Ssshhh.... I am here now and will always be with you." She kissed my forehead and wiped my tears with her thumb.
"So, how's Grandma?", She spoke as she caressed my hair.
"She's fine....Mom?"
"Yes, baby girl", She co'od.
"How do you feel when the one you love, didn't love you? Why don't we get hurt? Why do they say you'll get the one whom you love?"
"It hurts like hell. It makes you wanna stop living. It makes you feel that you are not worthy enough. But, that's not what love is. It's a beautiful feeling, dear. It gives you a reason to live, to fight. Maybe that person is not 'The One' for you. I am sure you deserve someone better. Anyways, life is too short to cry for petty things. So, be happy and enjoy this beautiful gift given to you by God. YOLO!" She smiled as her eyes twinkled. She looked heavenly beautiful.
"Mother, did you love someone and never got him?"
"Yes, I did but see, I got someone better than him, your dad."
"Hmm... Are you and dad together now?"
"Yes, we are and we both are proud of you. Will you do one thing for me?"
"Yeah. Anything."
"Keep your grandma happy, will you?" She smiled and wiped away a tear.
"I will", I smiled back. I saw a strong beam of light emerging from the sky as I shielded my eyes away from it.
"It's time for me to say goodbye." She looked at the sky.
"Please don't go. Don't leave me. I started crying again and clenched her dress. She held my face in her hands and smiled, blinking away her tears.
"I will always love you." I hear her faint whisper as she vanished from my sight.
"I love you too, mom", I whispered back.
'Baby, you light up my world like nobody else..." I opened my eyes as my phone rang.
It was just a dream - I sighed at the thought as I picked up my phone.
"Sanjanaaaaaaaa!" Megha, my best friend, screamed.
"Ow! my ears, you dumb woman." I shouted back.
"Sorry, sorry! Where are you? Your grandma is worried. I told her that you are at my house."
"I am ummm....can you pick me up? I am at U.C."
"Ohkay. But why are you there? I thought you didn't like clubs."
"I'll explain later."
*After 2 hrs*
"I'm gonna kill that bastard." Megha punched the steering wheel as she took a left turn.
"Leave it." I shook my head.
"Okay. But what about a small prank on him?" She giggled.
"Sure, but later." I mumbled.
She stopped her car outside my house. "Here you go", She looked at my house.
"Yeah. Thanks." I muttered. "Wanna come inside?"
She beamed with joy. "Ofcourse!"
I rang the doorbell and waited for few minutes. When no one answered it, I rang again.
I have a bad feeling about this - I thought.
Suddenly, I remember the doctor telling me that grandma shouldn't worry else she will have a panic attack which may cause her death. I panicked and banged the door. Megha looked worriedly at me. I took a potted plant and crashed it at the huge window. The glass broke into pieces. I jumped inside followed by Megha.
"Grandma?", I hollered as my body shuddered. My knees gave up when I saw her lying on the floor, unconscious. I fell on my knees and shook my head, tears overflowing from my eyes. I heard Megha calling for an ambulance as I just sat there, crying out aloud.
It's all my fault. She got worried because I ran away from the house to catch my bf with that girl. I should have told her.I' m sorry, grandma...
I heard the sound of sirens which indicated that the ambulance has arrived. After few seconds, our home was filled with people surrounding my grandma's body.
"Let go of me, I want to be with my grandmother." I shouted as I was pulled away from her.
"I'm sorry, ma'am. But, you have to step aside." The man in white clothes told me.
"N-No. Please. Lemme be with her." I pleaded.
"Babe, let them do their job." Megha looked at me sympathetically.
She hugged me as I whined and sobbed.
"Sorry, ma'am. We couldn't save her. Her heartbeats have stopped." That man told me.
I looked at him furiously. "How could you? She's dead! N-No, she can't be dead ! Please saaaave her ! I beg you ! Don't worry about the money."
"Ma'am. It's of no use. She had a severe panic attack. Her arteries have damaged because of high blood pressure."
"I hate to study!" Megha held her forehead with her hand.
"Then why did you opt for med?" I rolled my eyes.
"I don't know." She grinned.
"Hey , umm.. can I sit with you?" I turned around to see the person who requested us for something.
"Um.." I stared at the hot guy with chocolate brown eyes, smiling at me.
"Ofcourse you can." Megha giggled.
He muttered thanks and sat beside us.
I shouldn't have let him sit with us. None of this would happen. My grandmother would be alive right now. This was all my fault.
Will you do one thing for me?"
"Yeah. Anything."
"Keep your grandma happy, will you?"
"I will."
I am so sorry, mom. I couldn't fulfill my promise. Suddenly, I felt dizziness and weakness all over my body.
"Sanjana!" I heard Megha shout before there was a total blackout
