I stare down at my notebook, tears about to escape my eyes. I head to the stairs of the physics room to get to the back and highest seat. I bump into something, myself and my books falling down.
"Sorry." I hear a soft girl voice whisper as I see a hand stuck out to me. I collect my books, take her hand, and thank her for helping me up.
"I wasn't looking where I was going. Sorry." I say.
The girl nods and looks down.
"I recognize you... are you Leah from the girls' soccer team?"
She nods again.
"That's so cool! I'm Sylvia Frasher."
Leah looks up and gives a small smile. "You're the granddaughter of Coach K, aren't you?"
"Hehe, yep!"
"Why are you crying?"
I had forgotten about the tears. Shit. "Oh um..." I quickly wipe my face with the back of my hand. "No reason."
"We're kinda friends now. You can tell me."
"Well um... my boyfriend is really mad at me right now."
"That's terrible! What happened?"
"Me and my best friend, who's a boy, were joking around about if we would date. And my boyfriend got really really mad about that."
"I'm so sorry."
"It's not your fault. Wanna go grab some lunch with me after class?"
Leah smiles. "That'd be nice."
"Great, See ya after."
We walk to our separate seat choosing. When the professor finally excuses us, I walk down to the door. Leah and I walk to Starbucks in a comfortable silence. We order and sit down.
"So... your major is physics too?" I ask.
Leah nods. "And my minor is creative writing."
"Wow, that's a lot to keep up with, soccer and those."
"I'm able to juggle it."
"That's amazing."
She laughs. "Thanks. So... do you know if the Luke guy is dating anyone?"
I smile. "Why do you ask?"
"For a um... friend..."
"You like him!! He is kinda good looking. And he is sweet. I'll call Amile and ask."
"Fine, I do..." Her eyes widen. "You have the Amile Jefferson's number?"
"Well, Yeah, I have the whole team's number. We're all really close."
"Cool! Now call, call, call!"
I laugh and get my phone out. I call Amile and he picks up. "Hello?"
"Hi Milly."
"What do ya need, Syl?
"Well my friend wants to know if Luke is single or not."
"Um... Hey Luke!" He calls out to someone. "You gotta bae, or nah?"
I laugh at his Nash Grier reference.
"Nope. He's single."
"Great, tell Luke to go to Nosh Diner at 6:30 tonight."
"Deal. See you at practice day after tomorrow."
