I high five Anthony as I stand next to him, degree in both of our hands. I laugh a little as he adjusts my tipped cap.
As the principal speaks, I retell my speech in my head. I got Valedictorian, so I've to do a speech. I tried to add a little humor so I don't bore the audience to death.
Speaking of the audience, my friends and family take up most of the chairs. The whole basketball team is here, grandpa and grandma, mom and dad, Remington, Caden, and Quin, and Hanna and her parents.
My heart beats quicker as I step up to the podium. I pull down the microphone to my height, and I hear the basketball guys laugh.
"Just a warning, I'm not good at speeches. I'm good at homework, tests, and quizzes, but not speeches. And this is very cheesy. So if you're lactose intolerant, you should leave now. And if you're a fan of the Tar Heels, first of all, you suckers lost. Second, you may want to leave before I offend you."
Laughter. I'm doing okay so far.
"So, as many of you know since half of you are my family or friends, I'm the granddaughter of the amazing coach of the Duke men's basketball team. And no, this isn't gonna be about basketball, just listen. Ever since I was three, I was fascinated by basketball. Can't play it, though, but I enjoy watching my favorite team play it. I've gone to every practice and home game, unless I was grounded like I've been for the past few weeks, and I've become friends with every Duke player that has stepped onto the court. Now, this is the cheesy part folks, so you have been warned."
"All of these boys inspired me. They played their hearts out every game, and with a smile too. Now, sometimes, we didn't have the best game. We didn't have a smile at all. But when we beat the Tar Heels a few weeks ago, it was a crazy locker room. I honestly thought we were going to lose!"
"But they kept going, and they won. So when I was in 9th grade and thought I was going to fail, I kept going. I studied for three hours every night. I earned 100s which got me where I'm standing right now. Now, class of 2015, the craziest people I've ever met, I'm going to miss you guys. Well, some of you. A lot of you were annoying." Laughter. I did good, phew.
"Thank you for listening to me attempt to make a speech, have a great summer." I smile nervously.
Grayson starts the applause, and the rest of the guys holler and cheer. I smile a little more when the rest of the crowd applauds and I walk back to Anthony. He gives a thumbs up.

The whole team takes turns hugging me. I laugh the whole time, being tossed around. Finally, Hanna takes me from them and hugs me herself. Then her parents hug me. Then my brothers hug me. Then grandpa and grandma. Then finally, my own parents.
Everyone gets in a car and goes to my house. For my moms graduation party, she had an actual party with music and drinks and all that stuff. I have all of the people I love and we're all watching HighSchool Musical. They all tried to get out of it, but I forced them to. Anthony and I both have changed out of our robes into hoodies and jeans.
My parents, grandparents, and Hanna's parents sit on the black couch. Sean Kelly, Sean Obi, Marshall, Jahlil, Matt, Tyus, Amile, Quinn, Justise, and Nick sit on the other couch. Grayson sits to the right of me, Hanna to the left, and Anthony lies in front of me, his head on my lap. I braid his hair as I watch the amazing movie.
As the second movie starts, I feel Grayson's arm go around my shoulder. I turn my head to him and smile. He smiles back and winks then turns his head to the television. I turn my head back as well and can't stop smiling.
I rest my head on Grayson's shoulder and close my eyes, getting sleepy in the middle of HighSchool Musical 3. I feel Anthony's head lift off of my lap, so I shift my knees and wrap my arms around Grayson's torso, deciding to get comfortable. I feel his arm hold me closer to him as I bury my face in his chest, listening to his steady heart beat.
I hear Grayson laugh softly as a chorus of 'awwww's surround us. I decide to stay fake asleep, to avoid the teasing from these crazy people.
"We're just friends, guys."
Ha, friend zoned. It really sucks.
Okay I know this one was super duper mega wega (is wega a word?) short, buttt I think it's fine.
Thank you for my best friend for reviewing it, you know who you are
As always, don't forget to leave your comments and a vote!
