Chapter 5 - The Juniors' Payback

Kongpob's POV:

I heard someone unlocking the door opposite mine. I looked at the clock, it's almost 10pm. What and where have Daeng gone for so long? I didn't see him the whole day. So I hurried to open my door and greet him.

"Ai'Daeng. Where have you been? Why are you back so late?" I asked him continuously.

"Sawadeekhap P'" he said weakly and gave me a wai. I was taken aback a little. I just realised, the few days that I know him for, he have never greeted me so formally and with a wai at that. What's up with this kid?

"Daeng you just 'wai'ed at me. You never 'wai'ed at me." I must've worn a surprised look on my face.

"Au P' why didn't you correct me earlier. It could've saved me all the trouble and avoid getting punished." He said with a pout.

"Punishment? What punishment? Who punished you?"

"The evil head hazer. He made me 'wai' the big tree by the field because I didn't 'wai' at him when he called me. He told me to do it for 5 hours" Daeng whined.

"And you did as he told you?"

"Well, I was afraid he would come back and check on me to see whether I really did as he told. And I'm glad I stayed P' because he passed by earlier. He seemed a little shocked to find me there. Maybe he expected me to leave halfway. Hah this is Daeng Kongtanin, I never give up that easily." Daeng rambled on to himself while tapping his chest with pride.

Haih. I'm glad my crazy little brother is headstrong and would take up a challenge but it disturbed me how P'Arthit is picking a fight with Daeng too. I felt guilty towards Daeng who have to go through all this because of my mistake. Even if Daeng took my side on that day, he didn't actually do anything deserving of this punishment. Looks like I'll have to find a way to settle with P'Arthit.

I could see Daeng looks like he was about to pass out so I passed him the food I bought for him earlier which he accepted gratefully. I told him to take a hot shower, eat and sleep. Our next gathering is tomorrow afternoon and I have a feeling it's going to be a long day.

P'Arthit is asking us how many people are there in our batch and major. The hall was silent and I could see Deang praying internally that P'Arthit won't pick on him. Suddenly, "Daeng, 0206!" P'Arthit called out. I was surprised he didn't pick me but Daeng instead. I'm pretty sure I heard Daeng muttered a cuss before standing up.

"Can you answer my question Nong Daeng? Do you know how many students there are in your batch?" P'Arthit asked again.

"I'm sorry but I don't know P'." Daeng answered as calmly as he could.

"You don't know?" P'Arthit questioned him smugly. I could see Daeng getting irritated, I hope he doesn't do anything stupid. I wanted to help him badly and my time to shine arrived when P'Arthit continued, "I'll get someone to help you then. Kongpob, 0062! Would you like to assist your friend?"

I stood up and answered, "I'm sorry P' but I too have no idea."

"Tcktck. Raise your head and look at your friends who have no answer for me!" he exclaimed to the other freshmen. He smirked before taking out a gear from his pocket. "Do you see this gear? This is the symbol that proves us as engineers. And I won't consider you as my juniors until you have earned this gear." He is now addressing everyone in the hall.

The he turned his attention back to me. "Now Mr Kongpob, what will you do if I refuse to give you this gear?" I didn't answer him instantly but I had a score to settle with him so I was searching for the words to throw back at him. He wore a victorious smirk and was about to walk away when I replied, "Then I will just take it from you."

He froze where he stood before turning back to look at me. I could see Daeng smirking at corner of my eyes and I knew this cheeky kid is going to play along with me. We both have had about enough of P'Arthit's 'abuse'.

"What did you say?"

"I said I will take it from you." I repeated my answer.

"And how are you going to do that?" he questioned.

"I will make you my wife. They say what belongs to your lover, also belongs to you. So I will make you mine and your gear will also be mine."

As if my statement wasn't enough, Daeng suddenly added, "Oooh, P'sapai" and 'wai'ed at P'Arthit. There was a brief uproar before P'Arthit grabbed onto my collar and gave Daeng a death glare. P'Knot came to the rescue again and signaled to P'Arthit to calm down.

"You've got guts Kongpob. I would like to see you try and do that. And I'd like to see you try call me that again Daeng." He let go but still eyed us with murderous look. "But the gears are still in my possession right now. So you still have to do as I say. Both of you give me 200 sit and stands now."

No one in their right mind would be happy with this kind punishment but Daeng and I were fighting hard trying not to smile. And when we feel that the seniors weren't looking we would subtly grin, satisfied with what we just did. No regrets there.

Daeng's POV:

"Shia P' did you realise that you technically proposed to our head hazer P'?" I grinned while teasing P'Kong on our way back to our dorms.

"Well I had about enough of his unfair treatments towards us and I couldn't think of anything better at that moment. That was the best I could muster up at the spur of the moment. And you. You weren't any better calling him P'Sapai." P'Kong chuckled at the end of his sentence.

"Au. I am your brother aren't I? So if he's your wife then he's my P'Sapai." I winked playfully which earned me a light smack at the back of my head.

We continued our random rambling til we reached our rooms and part ways in front of our doors but not before making arrangements to meet up tomorrow morning for beakfast.

The next chapter will still be about how the first week of uni goes for the three boys but the coming weekend should clear out some of your questions J
