Sapphire sighed as she sat down on her bed and pulled her laptop from its case beside her. Pulling on her headphones, she pressed play on her iPod and smiled as ‘Survival’ by Muse came on. Looking at her clock she saw it was 4:30, and her dinner was at 5. Wondering what she could do to pass the time, Sapphire remembered a Muse forum her friend had suggested to her at school, and decided to check it out. Her laptop was already on and Sapphire clicked to open up a new tab in the browser. As she did the computer seemed to hang for about a minute, as she waited she tapped her desk with her fingers impatiently. Her computer had been hanging like this a lot recently, especially when she hadn't been using it. She was planning to ask her parents for a new laptop but this one was only a year or so old so wasn't expecting they would splurge for a new one just yet. Eventually the browser came back to life and she typed in the web address.

After scrolling through the site for a few minutes, Sapphire noticed the photos section on which other fans had posted their pictures. Deciding she’d had enough of reading stupid comments on the thread she was currently viewing, she decided to take a look. Almost immediately, images of the band came up. Some of them on tour, some drawn, and some were well… Sapphire didn’t really know what they were. All she knew was that they weren’t really anything to do with the site.

Sapphire saw a photo of Matt Bellamy playing piano, and instantly pulled up the comments, typing:

OMG! I wish I could afford that piano… and of course to meet the band!!!’

Sapphire had always wanted to play on a grand piano, but had only ever played on keyboards and stage pianos. It wasn’t that her parents couldn’t afford it, or even that they didn’t have the space. They thought that music was becoming a distraction and so refused to get her a larger piano until she stopped getting into so much trouble at school. Sapphire could partially understand why they did this, but she was still getting good grades, A*’s in several  subjects.

After daydreaming about the piano for a few minutes, Sapphire realised someone had replied to her comment.

Jakeyboy2000 says: Ahaa doesn’t everybody? I prefer Bellamy’s MB-1 though… Saving up for a replica :P

Sapphire re read the comment over and over, before deciding to reply. Besides, what harm could it do?

She quickly replied with:

I love that guitar! Not much good for me though, I play keyboard :P’

Sapphire chatted through the comments with the user for around half an hour, before being told by an administrator to stop spamming the picture; she decided to click on his profile and add him as a friend.

Almost instantly after friending him she received a private message.

Jakeyboy2000 says: Well, hey! :P

Sapphyrocker says: Oh hi there! Ha-ha! :)

Jakeyboy2000 says: Nice to meet you! I’m Jake!

Sapphyrocker says: Nice to meet you too Jake! I’m Sapphire!

Jakeyboy2000 says: OMG awesome name!!! I wish my name was more like yours

Sapphyrocker says: Uhhhh but you’re a guy… Aren’t you?

Jakeyboy2000 says: Yes of course I am! I just meant that I wish my name was more unique! Anyway… I guess you like Muse? How long for?

Sapphyrocker says: Urm, a few years now. My sister used to love them, she took me to one of their performances and I guess I was hooked from then. How about you?

Jakeyboy2000 says: My parents were into music, got me listening to quite a variety. Used to???

Sapphyrocker says: Yeah. She left a few years ago we don’t know where she is. We think she went away with some guy she’d spoken to online, and he lied to her. She was bullied a lot at school, and was depressed. He told her exactly what she wanted to hear.’

Jakeyboy2000 says: I’m sorry to hear that :( I know how you feel… My parents were killed in a car crash coming to pick me up from my dad’s parent’s house one evening

Sapphyrocker says: :( I’m sorry :(

Jakeyboy2000 says: I still feel like it’s my own fault though you know?

Sapphyrocker says: Yeah, I know how you feel.

Jakeyboy2000 says: How long have you been playing keyboard then?

Sapphyrocker says: About 10 years I think. Since I was about 6, and I’m 16 now. Although, at that age I was just kinda sat hitting the keys I think ha-ha

Jakeyboy2000 says: Cool! I’ve been playing guitar a little less than that. You must be amazing!

Sapphyrocker says: Nah hardly… I think people only said I was any good at all because I was that little innocent girl. You know, the one who did everything she was told without question, let others push her around etc. I guess I changed a lot after my sister died. I changed my attitudes and outlook on life. Hell I even changed how I look ha-ha

Jakeyboy2000 says: Ha-ha :P Bet you’re still cute though :P Well, I’m gonna go grab some food then going to play guitar. My laptop needs charging so will probably just get an early night tonight. Chat ya tomorrow?:)

Sapphyrocker says: Cute? Me? Nope! But yeah, message me whenever you’re free tomorrow, and I’ll sign in on my phone. Bye for now!

Sapphire shut down the site and her laptop, before looking over to her clock. 5:45

“Shit!” she muttered under her breath. She’d been talking to Jake for over an hour, and had missed dinner! Her parents were going to kill her, she knew it.

Quietly, she opened her bedroom door and peeked out. Maybe they’d be watching TV in the lounge at the front of the house? If they were then she’d be able to sneak past them into the kitchen at the back, grab some food and go up to her room to eat. She could say she took a nap straight after school because she wasn’t feeling good. Sapphire sighed and weighed up her options.

“SAPPHIRE LOUISE GRAY” screeched Sarah, Sapphire’s mother, from downstairs.

“Uh oh…” Sapphire muttered under her breath, before messing up her hair and makeup so her mother believed her story. “Yeah?”

“You missed dinner young lady!”

“Mum I was asleep; I didn’t feel too good when I got home. I’m sorry.”

Sarah sighed and hugged her daughter, mumbling sorry before sending her off to get some food.

After eating, Sapphire decided to watch some videos online. She’d recently found a new band called, ‘PocketSizedGiants’ and decided she enjoyed their music enough to follow them and subscribe. She mostly liked their unique and interesting music videos. Clicking onto one of their songs she settled into her bed and fell into a deep, fitful sleep.
