"Explain this whole bonded thing again to me please" I say as I rub my temples. I begin to feel the dull ache of a headache at the base of my skull and I groan. Scattered Leaves sits in front of me on the deep purple couch opposite mine.

"We basically let our souls become connected and now we feel each other's emotions. It's like a mating bond" he explains to me for about the sixth time tonight.

"What was your mother going on about being fated?" I ask another questions a I try to make sense of what happened earlier in the forest.

"Being fated is like a mate, you are made for each other and physically can't live without your fated half or mate as you call it" He explains.

"Mates" I whisper quietly to myself. I feel the tears well in my eyes but I force them back.

"So we are fated I assume then?" I ask and he nods.

"So let me get this strait here, you and your mother had a plan where you would find me and then get me to my full power and bond to me so when she killed me you got all my powers. Then you would rule while your mother made all the decisions from the sidelines behind the Elders which she has under her control? But since we are actually fated this ruins her whole plan and you've switched sides?" I recap and he nods again. I sigh and fall back against the couch as I try to think this through.

"If you are going to remove my mothers title as keeper of the Elders your going to have to have a good reason for it because a lot of the people here adore her" Scattered Leaves says.

"Can't I just use what actually happened?" I say in a whining voice as I sit up again.

"I suppose so but a lot of people would be weary of the Elders after that" he explains and I nod.

"I guess we better do that now before she can tell everyone a different story" I say as I stand.

"We shall head to the Elders, it will be done there" he says and stands too. We walk to the Elders in silence. When we reached the stairs he turned to me and smiled.

"You need to run" he tells me and I look at him confused.

"They're going to kill you the second you walk in there. That was the plan. I'm only telling you because I love you, run for your life. I'll cover for you for as long as I can but you need to get out of here now" he says with concern. I take a few steps back in fear.

"Are you sure about this?" I say nervously.

"I'm sure. Go back to the house and get your book and pack a small bag and run. It will be safe to return when you have mastered your powers but only then" he says as he pulls me into a hug.

"I'll miss you" I say and throw my arms around him.

"Go, now" he says. I pull away and kiss him before I run off into the darkness of the village in the trees to the other side. I reach the house and I run inside. I pick up the book from inside the nightstand and grab a few shirts and pants and throw them into a bag. I hear a knock on the front door.

Quickly I open the window and look down. It's about a seventy foot drop to the ground. I smile and jump as I hear the door open and footsteps running around the house. I fall into the darkness below and let myself change into my best form. I twist in midair so I land on my feet as cats always do. I hold the bag in my mouth so I don't lose it in the night.

The ground hits my paws hard which causes me to stumble a bit. I look back up at the open window and bid the place farewell. I hear people shouting from above and take that as my que to run. I run hard and fast into the darkness of the forest at night with only the stars to guide me.

I make a silent promise to myself that I will return as soon as I can. I will do as Scattered Leaves suggested and master my powers so I can take out any who cross me.
