"We're mates" she says and continues to sob. I gently rub circles on her back to calm her down.
"What is a mate?" I ask her confused.
"A mate is a person who the Goddess chooses for you to spend the rest of your life with, like a soulmate or some crap like that" Fallon says between sobs.
"I've never heard of a Werecat having a mate, they find people like humans do" I tell her.
"How are you not the concerned about this?" She asks me as she starts to raise her voice.
"What? We're mates, what's so bad about that?" I ask. She is seriously confusing me.
"Your a girl and I'm a girl. Mates are one boy and one girl, it is almost unheard of for same sex couples to complete the mating process, they usually reject each other" she explains. Slowly she is starting to calm down. I sit beside her on the soft grass and wrap my arms around her.
"It's alright darling, I promise I won't ever reject you" I tell her and burry my face in her hair.
"How will we do this? As soon as I find my mate I have to bring them back to meet my parents. Your a cat and a girl, they would kill me for that" she says and starts crying again.
"Then I won't meet them. We can keep this between us until you are ready to tell people" I say softly.
"Okay, if you want to do this I will give it a go, but if it doesn't work can we stay friends?" she asks.
"Of course! You have a very good taste in books" I say and pull her legs over mine. She laughs and smiles at me which makes me smile.
"Well if we are mates I suppose we should get to know each other" she offers and I nod.
"Truth or dare?" I ask with a devilish smile. For me this is the best way to get to know someone.
"Truth?" she says a little nervous. I sit back and pretend I am thinking for a moment.
"Let's start with an easy one, what's your favourite colour?" I ask.
"Black" she says without thinking "truth or dare?" she asks me and returns that smile.
"Dare" I tell her.
"I dare you to jump in the pond" she orders. I laugh and climb the tree above us. I skillfully maneuver across the tree until I am on a thiner branch above the pond.
"How deep is it?" I call nervously to her from my perch above the water.
"About seven feet in the middle" she calls back. I nod and shift my weight up and down on the branch like a diving board.
I jump off head first and slice into the ice cold water a second later. I move my arms around and try to get to the surface. Something brushes against my leg and I begin to panic. I kick harder and my hand touches something squishy and soft. I turn around and shove off the bottom with my feet and kick forward.
My lungs begin to burn as I finally brake the surface. I suck in air and swim towards Fallon who is now at the side of the pond with a worried look on her face.
"I hate water" I say as I begin to shiver "it's cold and I can't swim and something touched my foot. I am never going in water again"
"Don't be like that" she says laughing. I look at her and a smirk crosses my face.
"Wanna hug?" I ask her and run over to her quickly. I pull her into a hug which soaks her in water.
"No get off me!" she shrieks loudly and laughs. I let her go and lie down in a sunny spot under the tree.
