{The Victim’s Ballad}

You were the shadow that loomed over the hourglass of my life.

You were the one catalyst that made difficulties always rife.

One incident that was nothing to you but a stain on my soul,

This moment in time that left me forever in the victim’s role.

Laughed off, ignored or simply dismissed,

You were left to live your life while I trailed behind lost in time’s mist.

Poisoned touch, whispered threats and violent remains,

I can never break these worn down chains.

Your face is like a specter that haunts my every nightmare,

Leaving me like a child, defenseless and bare.

I’m sure you justify it to yourself,

And I can’t seem to forgive myself.

No one will take my word against yours and I have no fight left to give.

So all I can seem to do is pick up the broken pieces and try to simply live.
