"Okay, are we all in disguises?"
I turned to the two families that were struggling under the disguises of Frida Kahlo.
"This is so -"
"Embarrassing..."
The twins groaned and Papa Julio sighed "I'm not sure Coco would either be laughing or delighted to see me in this" I'm not sure but the only persons that didn't seem to mind is Hector and Miguel.
Maybe its the genes.
A car honked and Frida Kahlo waved "Come on amigos or we'll be late for the show!" We quickly scrambled in, Hector being a gentleman, helped Mama Imelda on to which she rudely ignored and stepped in without any glance.
Though I swore I thought I saw a smile on her face.
The car ride was silent. Papa Fernando held his guitar up front but made no move to play for fear he might upset the Shoemaker.
Miguel and I sat in the back with Hector and waited in tense silence.
"So..." I whispered "How did you know he was your great great grandpa?" Hector shrugged as did Miguel before he showed me the family photo.
"I showed this to him and found the truth that he was murdered and Ernesto stole his guitar and songs"
I nodded and Hector clenched his hands "I never should have left Santa Cecilia. From the very start I regret walking out of that door" I patted him in the back.
"We all make mistakes Hector"
Hector nodded and we both leaned against both his shoulders.
Papa Fernando smiled "He's a good man" Mama Imelda tensed as she turned to look at Hector and the kids leaning against him. She scoffed and turned away.
"A good man doesn't leave his family behind"
"Yet he tried to cone back and repair what was once broken. I wasn't like that when Coralie died and abandoned Jose"
A deep sadness resonated in his eyes that it almost mirrored Imelda's "It was luck that made Coralie accept me back when I came here and I advise you to try it too and give Hector a chance" Papa Fernando looked back at the three.
"I don't want to hurt someone again"
Mama Imelda looked at Miguel then at Hector who had his arms wrapped around them both and felt a tug in her chest.
Maybe, she could forgive him.
"Alright amigos, we're here"
We quickly piled out with the boys stumbling on their dress and there was one point Tio Raúl tripped on his dress and fell into the arms of Felipe and Oscar.
Needless to say, the three quickly agreed to forget it.
It was amusing to watch the two of them until the sounds of trumpets signalling the start of the show reached our ears.
"Vamos! Vamos! We don't have time" We followed Frida until we met up with a few performers and each of them greeted Hector and Miguel.
"I take it that you met them when they were on rehearsal"
I said and Miguel nodded and a loud voice spoke up "You! I thought I would never see you again bailarín del golpecito" I turned and waved before Frida gestured to the papaya prop.
"In here!"
We piled in first followed by the dancers. The place was so tight mainly because of the small ball props that resembles the seeds.
I moved to find a better position until I was face to face with Miguel "Your face is exactly the shape of these seed props" That was the first thing that came out of my mouth as I giggled.
Miguel rolled his eyes. A loud music began and soon enough, the dancer's began to pile out to begin their dance.
We waited for a few moments until Hector signalled us to come out and one by one, we quickly made our exit to the backstage.
Frida Kahlo was there as she made sure we were all there.
"Good luck muchachos"
"Gracias Frida"
Miguel called back. Finding a secluded spot, we began to remove our disguises. Miguel let out a yelp when he literally pulled out the fake brows.
Dante came out from Oscar's skirt and he struck his tongue out.
Mama Imelda struggled in removing her long skirt and Hector made a move to help. Is she gonna let him?
"Here let me help -"
"Don't Touch Me!"
Maybe not.
Imelda growled and tore the long skirt to avoid Hector making another "helping" move.
I winced as I tried to remove the pins and clips on my hair. This is why I hate having my hair tied up, it sometimes gets stuck in the most ridiculous manner.
"Your hair is like a haystack, es gracioso" I turned to glare at Miguel when I felt fingers brush against my hair.
"Manténgase quieto"
I was still as stone as he worked on my hair. I smiled as I relaxed under his touch.
"I didn't know you can do hair"
"I always help Mama Coco whenever she needs to tie her trenzas"
Once he was finished, I finger combed my hair and sighed with relief when I didn't find any knots.
"Ahem..."
Our eyes snapped to our families eyeing the two of us. No wonder it had gotten so quiet.
We both blushed and looked away before Papa Fernando had everyone in a huddle.
"Everyone clear on the plan?" Papa Francisco asked. Victoria was the first to speak "Find Hector's Photo -"
"- Give it to Miguel or Angelita " Papa Julio added on.
"- Send Miguel and Angelita home" Mama Imelda said with her arms crossed and Hector asked "Got your petals?" Everyone raised their own petals and Dante barked in conformation.
With that, we were off with Imelda on the lead and Hector right behind her.
"Now we just need to find De la Cruz" Mama Imelda said as we rounded on a corner.
"Yes?" A voice suddenly spoke beside her.
