Prompt #7

Kenzie washed her face, her once red eyes fading into the normal brown. She'd cried all night. Her pillow was stained with tears. 20 years old and she cried all night about him. Her mother scolded her constantly about crying, because it would age her face. Owen had left her for her sister, how else was she supposed to cope, 5 years of lost love. Kenzie pulled her hair up and slumped at the table, her phone lighting up with never ending snaps, text, and miss calls. Her friends Alyy, and Dianna telling her to come out and go to the frat party with them.

She didn't want to, and knew he would be there. Leaning against the wall golden hair, built muscles flexing when he crossed his arms. He didn't want her. He had proven to her exactly why he left her. Everything she was missing her sister did twenty times over. She was skinny, while Kenzie was pushing it. She had longer finer hair, her's was thick and curly. Jasmine was gorgeous, and Kenzie didn't have any desirable attributes.

Jasmine was a princess, flaunting her long legs and flat stomach. Kenzie made her self a cup of coffee. Her eyes tired. The steam rose up to her nose, warming her face, and pleasing her taste buds. As the oldest she was supposed to set an example for the younger two. Her heart burned, and she wanted to punch a wall. Jasmine has taken 2 other boyfriends from her, 3 friends turned against her, and Jasmine had a self-esteem that could run China, and don't get her started about her ego. Maybe Jasmine was better, all she could think about is how she missed the signs. They were all there when Jasmine first met Owen.

"Jasmine, Owen, Owen Jasmine" I introduce my youngest sister.

"Hi, I'm Jasmine" she twirls her hair, and holds out her hand.

"Owen, Jasmine like the smell and flower?" He says shaking her hand.

"You got it." Jasmine giggles, and Owen winks a little.

~a while later~

"Do you know where Owen is?" Kenzie asks her mother

"Him and Jasmine went out to the garage to show off Daddy's 1940" Her mother placed another plate on the rack. Kenzie walked slowly out. She didn't understand what she heard.

Kenzie snapped out of the memory, back to her phone. Jasmine had taken everything from her. Her phone buzzed again, but this time Jasmines face popped up. "Hello?" Kenzie rolled her eyes at her voice

"What do you want, I can't give you anything else you've already taken everything" she snarls

"Look Kenz. I didn't mean to take him. I think I love him, and you can understand that right?" Kenzie could hear the begging.

"No I can't understand, because I never get to love them long enough before you take them!" Kenzie hung up the phone. She stared at the empty apartment. Owen had taken a lot when he moved out, to live with her. The walls were bare. Kenzie had taken down any reminders. Picture, tokens, finger prints, everything.

She set her phone down again, and walked over to the window. The view was amazing, the only reason she had wanted this apartment was the view. Owen used to sit out there for hours, and when she wondered where he was, she knew he was out here. In fact this is where she found them the first time. Jasmine was all over him, she begged for forgiveness. Kenzie said she forgave, but a grudge had buried itself in her heart. Eating away her values, and love for her sister.

Her Self-esteem had vanished long ago, who would want to stick around her when she had a younger prettier sister. Kenzie had gotton used to the fact that Jasmine would always get them, whats the point in falling in love when there is nobody to catch her. She looked at the time almost ten o'clock. Had she been moping for this long already.

Kenzie felt a burn of motivation in her. They were meant for each other, both lying and deceiving little- people. She took a painting of her family from the closet, and hung it back up above the mantle. Jasmine and Owen, who were they to say when she cried, when she got mad, when she stopped being her? Owen may have left her broken, but he didn't take the materials to fix her, Kenzie had the glue, the tape, and with it she would craft her heart back together, A million pieaces into one. She was strong for herself, and that's all she needed. She looked at her phone again and got dressed. As she shut the lights of her apartment off, and she thought,

Maybe Jasmine is a princess, but I'm a superhero.
