Taiyang was stressed. One of his daughters left for mistral and the other is too depressed to get out of bed, only leaving her room for food. So when he got a call from Qrow while cooking dinner for Yang, he knew it wasn't anything good.
"Tai, I hate to be the bringer of bad news, but..." Qrow began, and instantly every bone in Tai's body turned cold.
"But what Qrow! Did something happen to my daughter?!" He yelled into the phone, worried about his kid.
Qrow sighed. "Ruby and her 3 friends got hurt in a grimm attack." Tai began to yell, but the older scythe wielder had it covered. "TAI! Let me finish! All of them are alright and recovering. In fact, the doc said they will be fully healed by tomorrow." Tai let out a breath he didn't know he was holding in as he walked into the living room.
"Thank you for letting me know Qrow." Tai put the phone on speaker and sat on the couch.
"How's my other niece doing. She ok?" the father just sighed as a response.
"She...She's still healing. Atlas sent in a custom prosthetic just for her, and Yang hasn't even looked at it. I just wish I could do more for her, but all I can do is give her the time and space she needs..I...I" Tai choked up.
"Tai, I know its hard. It's been harder since our team disbanded. But now we need to be there for team RWBY and their friends. Heh. Just watching them brings back some memories of our very own golden days." Qrow chuckled at the thought, and then began to speak to someone else.
Tai began to think about their old team and instinctively reached for the framed photo sitting on the coffee table. He sighed in nostalgia as a voice spoke up in the background of the call.
"Well, I gotta go. The doc just came in and told me that Ruby is waking up. Talk to ya later Tai." The scroll beeped as the conversation ended.
Tai leaned back on the couch, thinking about his daughters and how far they have come. His eyes began to water as he remembered the trauma those two went through at the fall of beacon.
"No one should have to go through what those two have." The father sighed sadly, and then put on a smile. "Well I'm going to try harder, for both of them." As he walked into the kitchen to finish cooking, he didn't notice Yang who listened to the whole conversation with tears in her fragile eyes. She stood on the stairs, frozen in place, before heading back to her room and slamming her door.
