A week has passed and we had an unexpected off day from school. Mom adopted another cat for Luna to play with, but it's a small kitten. She was all white with blue shiny eyes. Since the kitten was a boy and a cat that was now mine, I named him Artemis. Artemis loved to pester and annoy Luna, especially when she wanted to sleep. They would play fight all the time, but even though he angered Luna, they would always be found napping together or close by each other; Luna acted as a mother to him.

My unexpected day off consists of finishing up some school work and calling up family back in Brighton. Artemis jumps into my lap while I log onto my laptop.

"Hey Artemis, how's your new home?" He purrs, rubbing the side of his head onto my hands. I giggle, rubbing his ears.

"Honey, have you called him yet?!" My mom shouts from downstairs- I sigh, "Not yet!" I wasn't prepared for this; I pick up my phone and dial a certain number that my auntie emailed me.

"Hello?"

Evan was out and about with a few friends, hanging out at the mall. Walking in and out of different stores on the first floor, Tyler and Jonathan kept sneaking things from each store into their pants pockets. Surprisingly, they haven't got caught.

Evan kept turning his phone off and on, hoping that you would call or message him back. "Y/n hasn't messaged me back today, do you think she's okay?" Evan turns back to his friends- Marcel rolls his eyes. "It's always about Y/n with you now, isn't it?" Half of Marcel was kidding, but the rest wasn't. Evan didn't know how to take it or how to perceive it. Tyler butts in, "You can't say you aren't too, dickhead." Marcel lightly shoves Tyler to the side, bumping him into children walking on the other side of them.

After another hour of walking around, they head to Jonathan's car. Finally, Evan got a text on his phone that worried him slightly.

Y/n: I had to call my dad. Can you come get me?"

Evan showed Jon the text, "No problem dude. This is the first time she ACTUALLY wants us to get her."

"How's my little girl? I've seen you've grown since the last time we talked." I roll my eyes; for a few days, my dad has been wanting to keep in contact with me. I refused, but mom insisted. He had a new family and a new wife already, and I feel like a burden to try and want him back for the broken family my mom and I are.

"You know, you didn't have to leave us. You still never told me why you left." I needed answers and I planned on doing everything I could to find out. Right now, my dad was in America as well, but he and mom refused to tell me where.

In the background of the call, you could hear children laughing and playing around. "You know I can't tell you." He sighs- why is he hiding this?

"No, you CAN tell me. I'm nearly an adult and I deserve the right to know why my own dad abandoned my mom and I out of NOWHERE without a trace. I DESERVE TO KNOW. SO you either tell me, or I'll hang up and pretend we never talked. I don't even want you back into the family, or here with us- I want to know the truth."

A silence fills the phone call. A single tear ran down my cheek; "Don't you think I deserve this? You've changed me completely- I moved to America in hopes that I'll be myself again. I became a hermit in fear of anyone getting too close to me and then they leave." A welp in your throat kept you from talking more, you now focused on not crying.

"Y/n," He goes to speak, but his voice cracks- "You'll always be my daughter and I'll always love you so never doubt my love." He paused for a second, maybe finding the right words to say. "Your mother and I were unhappy for years, and we started seeing others without you knowing or worrying. Eventually, when you were of age- we discussed it and came to the conclusion that you knew your father and knew he was there for your important years of childhood. It's time for your mother and I to be happy now, instead of faking it."

"You know-" I couldn't help but to start breaking down, "I'd rather not know who my damn father is than to be lied to from the father I loved and trusted. My whole life seems to be filled with lies, and now I know why mom refused to tell me. Don't talk to me ever again, but thank you for the memories and love. Goodbye."

Before he went to speak again, I hung up. I threw my phone against the wall- I throw myself onto my bed and scream into my pillows. Luna and Artemis jump on my back, play fighting with each other. Once I calmed down, I grabbed my phone and message Evan. I didn't want to be here right now.

A car horn blasts; I immediately rush downstairs and grab my purse. My mom was calling my dad in the other room- I wasn't going to bother her. I run outside from the back door, making my way from the side of the house to the car. I jump in next to Evan, who sat in the back with Marcel.

"Please hurry." I tap Jon's seat, motioning him to drive off.

Tyler spins back from the passenger seat to stare at me, "Has Evan corrupted you?" Him and Marcel giggle. "What?" I raised an eyebrow, looking at Evan. Evan wrapped his arm around my shoulder, holding me close to him.

"Are you okay? How'd it go?" I sigh from his question, "For the FIRST time, I snuck out of my house. How well do you think it went?" Sarcastically, I reply.

"Damn, what happened?" Marcel nudged my arm, "I had to call my dad. I learned the truth about him and his random absence." The more I talked about it, the more emotional I'll become. Evan could see it on my face, so they all stopped talking about it. Jonathan drove around for awhile until he stopped at Evan's house. Everyone hopped out of the car, rushing into the house. I've never seen his family before- maybe they're home.

"What's up, Mrs. Fong!" Jonathan slams the door wide open, shouting to Evan's mom.

"Hello boys," His mom turns around smiling, "Oh~ You brought a female! Is this the Y/n girl?" I nervously smile, darting my eyes up at Evan- who seems embarrassed also. Evan looks like his mom; since the last time I was here, it looks neater. Granted, I didn't stay inside long though. Family pictures were hung around the living room of Evan growing up. He looks cute for a kid who always played sports.

"Mom, stop embarrassing me." Evan mumbled; for a self-proclaimed 'bad boy', he was also a mama's boy. His mom hugged both of us; she was the sweetest lady I've ever seen with a soft and gentle voice. Evan's friends giggled behind us, "Well- it's nice to meet you Y/n." I nod politely.

"I'm going to the basement." Evan drags us all to the basement where it was decked out with a foosball table, a flat screen tv, a drum set with mic setups, two guitars, an old jukebox that seems to work occasionally, a mini bar, and a game system in the corner.

I look around, "How do you afford this?" Evan chuckles, resting his hand on my shoulder- "My dad travels for his job." Leaving it at that, he and his friends start to play the game system. On his XBOX- Marcel, Tyler, and Jon begin to play a multiplayer game while Evan showed you around the basement. He grabs his guitar, strumming it a few times to tune it.

"How well do you play?" I ask him; Evan had a classic guitar that looked a little beaten up- maybe from playing it too much. "I play every now and then." His tone was a bit cocky, as usual for Evan.

As the hours pass, Evan taught me a few chords on the guitar while switching places with the three others playing the game system. I actually had fun- I didn't think I would be saying that. I then decide to check my phone- my mom leaves me a few voicemails.

"Y/n, I need you home as soon as you can."

"Y/n, please call me back."

"Your father is here."
