Sitting for the first time since sunset, and the time being nearly sunrise, a certain short blue troll allowed an exhausted groan to escape him. His feet ached from dashing about all night, and his eyes felt gummy from his recent inability to get much sleep. As tired as he was, all of this effort was worth it. The trolls- his trolls, now- were safe, managing to find a cave system within the park and tunneling it deeper to provide a rudimentary camp of sorts. Blinky was still getting used to his new position as leader, and his heart ached every time he thought of Vendel. How he wished that the wise old troll was still there to guide them! But in a way he was; his spirit would always live in Blinky's memories.
Leadership suited Blinky surprisingly well. Once he was used to ordering others around and carrying the staff with him at all times (it was a little cumbersome) it was mostly smooth sailing. The biggest problem was how scared he was; everyone looked up to him, he couldn't fail them in any way! Aargh had had to force him to bed and shove food in his hands so he would eat on multiple occasions so far. Blinky found duties to take care of for days at a time; he found so much time to help the others that he was neglecting himself. Well, sleep deprivation and forgetting to eat wouldn't keep him down.
Blinky was watching a troll clean her sleeping area when he felt Aargh snuggle against him. He smiled and turned to face his lover of centuries, who nuzzled him with a low purr. "Blinky need to sleep. Trolls can be careful for a little." Aargh rumbled, giving Blinky a tiny lick behind the ear, knowing this was one of his most sensitive spots. Blinky returned the affection with a little kiss, then leaned into Aargh's warmth, mumbling about how he couldn't possibly sleep now, there was so much work... When Blinky was finally fast asleep, Aargh carried him to bed, making sure he actually slept.
Much later, Blinky woke feeling refreshed for what seemed like the first time in forever. Everyone else was still asleep; trolls usually don't have to sleep very often, but everyone had been short on sleep lately. The blue troll grabbed two books and a cup of coffee- after Claire introduced him to it he had grown a great fondness for the drink- in his four arms and hiked to the cave entrance. He sat down just outside it's edge, sipping his drink and watching the beautiful night skies slowly give way to early sunrise. The moment would have been perfect, if not for the red dart suddenly piercing the skin of Blinky's throat.
